I caught myself doing it, and was instantly horrified.
There I was, picking mulberries from the tree in our Thai garden on a HOT hot season morning. The mulberry tree is not just dripping mulberries - it's raining them down some days. (Gardening Pro Tip: the mulberry gets the grey water from my washing machine and I apply coffee grounds to the soil around the tree a couple of times a week).
We have a situation of immediate & extreme incoming abundance.
So there I am in a mentally-neutral space, picking away and just enjoying the bright sun and the sound of the birds when my increasingly observant Self sees-hears another part of my brain whirring away frantically and actively pondering my desire for out of season avocadoes - whether I might be able to find some at the market and just how very perfect guacamole might be later that day.
As soon as I observed myself doing that, I stopped with a start.
I mean, REALLY???!!!
Do I always HAVE to flip to that default and think about what's scarce, hard to get or not available to me right now???!!!
And in that barefooted, purple-stained moment in the garden, I think I FELT the biggest lesson I've ever had about my blocks to manifestation: that the secret is to SWIM in, REVEL in, BE GRATEFUL FOR and TOTALLY PRESENT with whatever I have in abundance, right now.
Or, in other words, to choose a focus of gratitude for whatever abundance has already manifested, right now.

We are so conditioned to think to that next thing, that next experience, that next meal or whatever - and not to be gloriously present.
We KNOW that what we give our attention to, is what we create more of.
Financially broke but swimming in plums, zucchinis, mulberries or whatever? Milk that feeling of abundance for all it's worth. Savor the feeling of having more than enough even in just one small area of your life.
PRACTICE THE FEELING.
Sometimes, with things like summer fruit, that's relatively easy.
What if you're drowning in work and craving some ME time? You can stop and simply be gratefully present with that top of the abundance curve. To simply & thankfully BE with the feeling of being in demand, wanted, needed, talented and able for the tasks at hand. And then nudge your thoughts to visualizing that same abundance of ME time - and see-feel yourself savoring and grateful for that luxury too.
What if you're drowning in dishes and your kitchen is a disaster area? Start by finding gratitude for meals already enjoyed, recipes experimented with, families happily fed. Find that space of thankfulness for owning enough kitchen stuff to cover every available surface. 😆 And then nudge your thinking towards a visualization of an abundance of clean dishes, neatly stacked in the cupboards and on the shelves. Wash and tidy and savor the feeling of creating your new abundance of order.
Abraham Hicks calls this the Pivot Point.
To start with where you're at, gratefully. Whatever you're swimming in. To practice gratitude for one form of abundance and to MILK THAT experience to start feeling grateful for the incoming abundance of whatever else you're ready to accept.
The funniest thing about this little lesson for me, this week? Avocadoes ARE out of season and very hard to find right now in Chiang Mai. But literally the next day, as I was driving past the electric office down by the river, I SAW one vendor by the side of the road with a whole open truck of avocadoes for sale. 😆 It made me chuckle.
Yes, I bought some and we had not only mulberries in abundance, but lots of yummy guacamole too.
We create our own abundance, every day, starting with focus and gratitude.
