Why would Jesus Christ teach religion if we didn’t need it?
First, let’s understand what religion really means in the Bible. The original Greek word used is threskeia, which means worship or religious service. In Latin, religare means “to bind again.” In English, religion refers to the practice and system of worship.
So biblically, religion is synonymous with worship.
If You say you don't need religion , it is like saying that their is no need to worship God, but the truth is that if you want to be saved , you need to worship God.
The Bible clearly teaches that humanity has gone astray from God:
Malachi 3:7 (KJV):“Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts.”
Because of sin, we were separated from God. We lived contrary to God’s will by allowing Satan to rule our lives. That’s why we need reconciliation ,a way to return to God.
This is where religion comes in.Religion is the system God has given us to re-establish our connection with Him. It’s the way He calls us back, teaches us His commandments, and guides us in worshiping Him properly.
Jesus Christ brought us the true religion,Christianity. He taught us how to worship God “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). Without this true worship, there is no salvation.
In short: Yes, religion is needed for salvation, because true religion is the worship of the one true God. It is our path back to Him, our way of expressing faith and obedience, and our means of receiving the salvation He promises.
