If there is one important thing to bear in mind is that the spirit and the flesh are constantly at conflict with each other. What the flesh wants to do is not what the spirit wants and what the spirit wants is not what the flesh wants. This is why we may want to do something but there is a contracting force that is hindering us from doing so.
We can either choose to walk in the way of the spirit or the flesh. So the question now is as Christians which one should we go by?
John 4:24
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
It takes the leading of the Holy Spirit to do God's will because the one who's will we are submitting to is a spirit. But inasmuch as we may sincerely want to do God's will we may experience some restraints that is keeping us from doing so. Any thing we try to do by our strength would be futile, hence, we should rely on the help of the Holy Spirit.
Zechariah 4:6
Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
There's no struggle that we hand over to God that He can't give us victory over. But it must come from a sincere heart. A heart that genuinely and willingly wants to give up everything that would serve as a form of hindrance to fulfillment of the will of God.
