War, starvation, and suffering are among the deepest challenges humanity faces, often leaving people feeling hopeless or forgotten. Biblically, these issues are not new. The Bible records many instances where people experienced war and famine, yet God consistently showed that He cares deeply for the oppressed and suffering. In times of hardship, believers are encouraged to lean on God’s promises and seek His guidance.
Psalm 34:18 “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit”
This verse reveals that even in the darkest moments, God has not abandoned humanity.
Biblically, the responsibility to care for those affected by war and hunger also lies with people. In both the Old and New Testaments, God calls His followers to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly (Micah 6:8). Jesus emphasized love for neighbor and the importance of helping the poor, the hungry, and the outcast. He said,
Matthew 25:35–40 “For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in… Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me”
Therefore, one biblical response to war and starvation is compassion-driven action supporting peace, giving to the needy, and advocating for justice and reconciliation wherever possible.
While human efforts are essential, the Bible also teaches that true healing and peace will come from God. Believers are called to pray for peace and trust in God’s plan, even when the world seems broken.
Isaiah 2:4 “He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore”
. This prophecy gives hope that God's justice and peace will ultimately reign. Biblically, the response to suffering is a combination of faith, prayer, compassion, and tangible help, trusting that God’s mercy will bring healing to a broken world.
