God is more interested in us obeying and keeping His commandments than us just hearing it and doing nothing about it. It's what we do with the word of God that matters the most and will bring about change in our lives. A lot of people hear the word of God but a lesser percentage of people actually observe to do what is required of the word.
James 1:22
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
If all we do is hear God's word and don't regard it then it is pointless. It would have been better if we did not even hear the word at all in the first place. People that go far with God are those who hear and practice His Word. Obeying God's word is for our own benefits. When we begin to obey His words only then can we see the results playing out both in our spiritual and physical lives.
If we listen to instructions but end up not obeying them this doesn't in anyway please the person who gave the instructions. But people who adhere to them leave the instructor pleased.
James 1:25
But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
One of the advantages of obeying God's word is that it abides with us. Those who hear His words but refuse to do them easily forget about what it even says. The Lord delights in those who obey His word.
