It's never God's intention for us to live or work in hostility. God wants us to become more like Him, and one of the profound traits we learn from Him is that He is slow to anger. You might know people who struggle with anger, easily provoked by the smallest things. Yet, one of the fruits of the Spirit, as seen in Galatians 5:22, is forbearance – which simply means we should be able to tolerate one another.
Someone who constantly creates chaos or mayhem likely hasn't yet cultivated this particular fruit of the Spirit. Wherever we find ourselves, we should try our best to live in peace. There's no doubt we'll encounter people who wrong us. But in most cases, we're the ones who should initiate peace, even if we were the offended party. This willingness to seek peace, even when wronged, is how we can recognize a truly contrite heart.
Matthew 6:21 tells us;
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
By our own human strength, we simply cannot achieve such a gentle and forgiving nature. But as we begin to walk with God, He helps us through this journey. Our emotions, especially when it comes to our temper, can cause a tremendous amount of damage if we can't control them. Therefore, let's strive to love one another and live in peace.
