One of the best things we can do for ourselves is to be honest with ourselves, if we don't we are doing nothing but deceiving ourselves. Anything we can't control automatically controls us and become Lord over us. But God made us to have dominion. That means as His children we should have power over everything and not the other way round.
Most times it takes a greater effort to stop something than to begin it. That's why it is advisable not to start in the first place. But peradventure we fall into such lifestyle. We can always recover from it. But we need to be willing to help ourselves.
No one can help us better than we can. If we have a sickness and we are provided with the medication to take care of the illness, if we don't commit to following up with the medication the illness will remain the same or even get worse.
But we don't need to go on the journey all by ourselves. We can always seek help from above.
2 Corinthians 12:9 - And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
In anything we do, if the grace of God is not involved it may end up in vain. Whenever we are feeling weak or insufficient in our strength the grace of God is always there to make it up for us. The good thing about our weaknesses is that they are opportunities for God's strength to be made manifest in our lives.
