¡Hola a todos! ¡Tiempo sin escribir por aquí! Hemos comenzado un nuevo semestre en la carrera de Artes Plásticas y como siempre, he estado todo éste tiempo tratando de hallar un equilibrio entre mis trabajos y los estudios. En ésta oportunidad, vengo a mostrarles unas fotografías que tomé durante una visita guiada en una exposición que está en el Palacio Municipal de Barquisimeto (Venezuela). Esta actividad estuvo a cargo de nuestra profesora de Historia del Arte II y debo admitir, que estuvo sumamente fascinante.
Hello everyone! Long time no writing here! We have started a new semester in the Plastic Arts career and as always, I have been all this time trying to find a balance between my work and studies. On this occasion, I come to show you some photographs that I took during a guided tour in an exhibition that is in the Municipal Palace of Barquisimeto (Venezuela). This activity was led by our Art History II teacher and I must admit, she was extremely fascinating.
La exposición se realizó en conmemoración a los 40 años del museo de la ciudad y en homenaje a Edgar Sánchez, un pintor venezolano de gran reconocimiento. Debido a que el museo se encuentra actualmente en reestructuración, el mismo está cerrado al público, la exposición llamada Imaginarios de la Casa Grande, entonces fue realizada en el lugar antes mencionado.
The exhibition was held in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of the city museum and in homage to Edgar Sánchez, a highly recognized Venezuelan painter. Due to the fact that the museum is currently undergoing restructuring, it is closed to the public, the exhibition called Imaginaries of the Big House, was held in the aforementioned place.
La profesora hizo la convocatoria al inicio de la semana. Estuve a punto de no asistir pues, como he estado muy ocupada, a veces se me olvidan las cosas o paso por alto algunos mensajes. Por suerte, alguien preguntó acerca del lugar y hora de reunión, enterándome del evento. Me levanté temprano y salí al encuentro. Me encontré con algunos de mis compañeros que se encontraban afuera de Palacio Municipal y tras entrar, comenzó el recorrido.
The teacher made the call at the beginning of the week. I almost didn't attend because I've been so busy sometimes I forget things or miss some messages. Luckily, someone asked about the meeting place and time, learning about the event. I got up early and went out to meet. I met some of my colleagues who were outside the Municipal Palace and after entering, the tour began.
Vimos varios cuadros del homenajeado, examinando su estilo y escuchando el relato de la profesora acerca de su trabajo y cómo fue desarrollándose cómo pintor a lo largo de los años. En sus pinturas se pueden ver rostros y paisajes difuminados, lo que hace su arte bastante dinámico al ojo del espectador.
We viewed several of the honoree's paintings, examining his style and listening to the professor's account of his work and how he developed as a painter over the years. In his paintings you can see blurred faces and landscapes, which makes his art quite dynamic in the eye of the beholder.
Del mismo modo, pudimos ver obras de otros artistas, comentando la profesora que habían pensado en artistas contemporáneos al homenajeado, para acompañar los trabajos. Entre las pinturas destacaban no sólo los diferentes estilos de cada artista, sino también el juego de los colores y el manejo de los conceptos de cada uno. De igual modo, la profesora nos iba contando sobre cada artista a medida que íbamos viendo su obra.
In the same way, we were able to see works by other artists, the teacher commenting that they had thought of contemporary artists for the honoree, to accompany the works. Among the paintings, not only the different styles of each artist stood out, but also the play of colors and the handling of each one's concepts. Similarly, the teacher was telling us about each artist as we were seeing their work.
Además de las pinturas, la exposición también cuenta con una serie de esculturas, de diferentes artistas, pero todos contemporáneos con Edgar Sánchez, como se hubo mencionado anteriormente.
In addition to the paintings, the exhibition also features a series of sculptures, by different artists, but all contemporary with Edgar Sánchez, as mentioned above.
Una vez que terminamos de ver las obras, la profesora nos reunió para hablar acerca de uno de las ramas que uno puede desempeñar, una vez que se ha obtenido el título universitario y ese es el de la museología. Fue bastante interesante escuchar aquella charla, en la que se comentó lo que se debe tener en cuenta a la hora de la exposición de las obras, como el espacio a utilizar, el manejo correcto y ubicación de las obras, así como las diferencias entre un museógrafo (el encargado de la colocación de las obras en los museos) y un museólogo (aquel que se dedica al estudio de las obras en sí). También nos contó que cada pieza, ya sea pintura o escultura, siempre debe venir especificada con la descripción del artista de cómo desea que la misma sea expuesta, lo cual facilita bastante el trabajo de los organizadores, sobretodo con piezas complejas. Pero entre los datos interesantes, el que más me pareció curioso es que cada obra tiene una especie de "expediente médico", en el cual se especifica las veces que ha sido restaurado y toda la información que permita a los restauradores hacer su trabajo, de ser necesario. Todo para que la pieza, se conserve el mayor tiempo posible. Genial ¿No?
Once we finished seeing the works, the teacher brought us together to talk about one of the branches that one can pursue, once one has obtained a university degree, and that is museology. It was quite interesting to listen to that talk, in which they commented on what should be taken into account when exhibiting the works, such as the space to be used, the correct handling and location of the works, as well as the differences between a museographer (the one in charge of placing the works in museums) and a museologist (one who is dedicated to the study of the works themselves). He also told us that each piece, whether painting or sculpture, must always be specified with the artist's description of how he wants it to be exhibited, which greatly facilitates the work of the organizers, especially with complex pieces. But among the interesting data, the one that seemed most curious to me is that each work has a kind of "medical file", in which it is specified how many times it has been restored and all the information that allows the restorers to do their job, be necessary. All so that the piece is preserved as long as possible. Great right?
Puedo asegurar que después de esta visita a ésta pequeña exposición, se ha despertado en mí el deseo de conocer más obras de otros artistas. Para nuestra buena suerte, el museo de la ciudad va a abrir de nuevo sus puertas al público, los próximos meses. Está en mis planes hacerle una visita y por supuesto, traerles las fotografías de las piezas que estén expuestas. Nos contaron que habrá una sala específicamente dedicada a obras realizadas por artistas de la ciudad, lo cual me parece maravilloso, pues estamos tan inmersos en nuestras vidas, que a veces no nos tomamos el tiempo de conocer el lugar en qué vivimos ¿Y qué mejor manera de conocerlo que a través del ojo excéntrico de un artista?
I can assure you that after this visit to this small exhibition, the desire to know more works by other artists has awakened in me. For our good luck, the city museum will reopen its doors to the public in the coming months. It is in my plans to pay you a visit and of course, bring you the photographs of the pieces that are exposed. They told us that there will be a room specifically dedicated to works by artists from the city, which seems wonderful to me, since we are so immersed in our lives, that sometimes we do not take the time to get to know the place where we live. And what better way to know it than through the eccentric eye of an artist?
