Like I've mentioned before in my previous post, Christmas was going to be entirely different this year and not the way we usually spend the Holidays during December. Different and yet filled with making new memories and that's what it's about isn't it?
This year, the first day of Christmas happened to be on a Sunday and knowing us, we don't really actively plan what we're going to do until last minute. Because most cities, shops and activities are closed - most are spending the Holiday at home with their family - we decided to do a film date, with lunch in between two movies.
The first movie we went to was Violent Night and the second was a comedy made in the Netherlands titled De Tatta's. Having watched the trailer I wasn't impressed by Violent Night, but after having given it a try I do have to say I enjoyed the movie, in spite of some gory scenes. Contrary to that, I knew what to expect from De Tatta's and I laughed out loud during the entire movie. There was also one unexpected development in the story, which got me teary eyed just like the drippy weather outside.
As mentioned before, we went to a restaurant near the cinema in between the two movies and invited a family member to join us. There weren't as many options, so we decided on a Turkish restaurant. I was contemplating between ordering a kebab or a pizza, but after someone mentioned the pasta section, I ordered a shrimp pasta. The pasta sauce was alright - I've had better - but didn't disappoint in the amount of shrimp. The cherry tomatoes were a nice surprise to the tongue though.
The others enjoyed a tandoori pizza, topped with fresh paprika and onions. The pizza was better seasoned in comparison to the pasta.
Because of the rainy and cold weather, we ordered some warm drinks: fresh mint and ginger tea and a beautiful looking coffee.
The ambiance was warm and inviting and the service - in spite of not all speaking Dutch - was friendly. The waiters didn't impose but were on standby, making rounds around the tables every once in a while.
Though we did not participate in the usual Christmas dinners and events this year, we enjoyed ourselves and spend it with people who matter. How did you spend your Christmas weekend? Let me know in the comments below 🤓.
