Maybe you have heard of the new game developed by @crypt0gnome called terracore. It is in Alpha testing right now (so still bug fixing, etc), but can be played by buying a citizenship for 20 HIVE. The purpose of this post is to give some tips before starting to play.
If you are curious about learning more about the game, @mickvir has a post the gives a pretty good overview here:

WHAT THE TOKEN IS USED FOR
The Game Token is SCRAP. This is the token mined in the game and used to level up your various attributes.
Everyone starts off at level 10
(level 1) for attack and defense. Stash (staking) is at level 1, as is Engineering (mining rate). Favor is zero.
You use the Scrap to upgrade. After paying 1 SCRAP to upgrade Attack, Defense and Engineering; each upgrade cost is the level squared. For instance level 2 to 3 would cost 4 SCRAP or level 5 to 6 would cost 25 SCRAP.
HOW MUCH SCRAP TO BUY BEFORE PLAYING
Playing a Defensive Game
You must level Defense to at least 60, level Favor to at least 60, level Engineering to 5 and level Stash to 5. With a 5 Engineering you’ll be making a little over 2 Scrap every four hours. If you upgrade attack you might be able to steal some along the way (you must have 20 attack or higher).
This should cost you 152 Scrap.
Playing more Aggressive
In addition to all the above definitely increase Attack to 70, which would make the total cost 242 Scrap.
terracore lite
You could start with 50 Scrap. I would up at least Engineering to 5 which should give you about 12 Scrap mined during your 24 hour protection period.
FINAL THOUGHTS
If you are planning to start go buy Scrap now. The price when I started a few days ago was north of 2 HIVE. The price now is hovering around .33 HIVE. If you can, stock up.
