Hi, everyone. Welcome to my post. In the Social Media Challenge, I will discuss anything about SPLINTERLANDS, it can be about cards, abilities, rulesets, battle reviews, End of Season results, or my playing experience.
In keeping with this week's theme, I'm going to share (a few) tips for beginners who are new or about to start playing the SPLINTERLANDS game based on my experience after playing this game 2 years ago.
Tips for Beginners!
NOTE: the tips I'm going to give are not 100% from me. I may take the explanation from some sources, summarize it, and give my own additional explanation.
Introduction to Splinterlands
APA ITU SPLINTERLANDS
Splinterlands is a unique digital trading card game that allows players to truly own their cards and other in-game assets. Thanks to web 3.0 technology powered by the HIVE blockchain, each card in Splinterlands is a non-fungible token (NFT) owned by a player...

Splinterlands falls into the category of digital trading card games, just like Heartstone, GWENT, Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, etc (I haven't played any of those games). What sets Splinterlands apart from other TCGs is that Splinterlands is run on a Blockchain (HIVE) where all assets (Cards, packs, In-game Currency, etc.) are owned by the players.
In other TCGs that don't use Blockchain, all the assets you've worked hard to accumulate through hard work or outright purchase can be lost or frozen without any notice. In Splinterlands (and other TCGs that use Blockchain), those assets are still safe in your hands even if you rarely play the game (as long as your account, passwords, and other important data are not hacked).
1 Battles in Splinterlands can be very quick and are divided into several stages. Search for opponents, choose cards, and find the best strategy, BATTLE (*there is a SKIP button at this stage). For more details, let's move on to the next section.
Getting Started
First, make sure that you are registered and logged in to Splinterlands

After successfully logging in, click the "PLAY NOW " button. Then you will be presented with a display like this
This is how it looks after you log into Splinterlands AND purchase the Summoner's Spellbook (for $10). The Summoner's Spellbook is used to "upgrade " your Splinterlands account so that you can earn rewards for winning battles, daily focus rewards, and end-of-season rewards in the form of cards, packs, and in-game currency.
I'm not forcing those of you who are new to Splinterlands to buy the Summoner's Spellbook right away, because when I first joined Splinterlands, I only looked at the battle mechanics (which you can see in the How to Play Tab). And I only bought the Summoner's Spellbook 2 months later.
The first time, you will be in the NOVICE League and need 4~5 wins to move up to the BRONZE League (Where you start earning rewards).
But if you're still unsure even though you've seen the tutorial in How to Play. You can test your skills in the "Practice " tab without worrying about losing ranks when you lose. Alternatively, you can view some of the best battles (from the top ranks in each league) through the "TOP BATTLES " tab, or you can also view a player's profile by clicking on their username or avatar and clicking on the "scroll" to see their last battle.
I'll give you an overview of the battle process in Splinterlands, which is fairly quick. But this time I used the "Practice" tab (although it's almost the same as the actual battle)
The first is to find an opponent. Once you click the Battle button (in actual combat) the system will find an available opponent for you. It usually takes up to 1 minute at most. But if you don't get an opponent for more than 2 minutes, try to check your internet connection (because that could be one of the causes).
But if the waiting bar fills up (about 3 minutes?) and you don't get an opponent (even with a stable internet connection), you can reload the page or wait a little longer. There are also times when you are "declared defeated" after the waiting bar fills up even with a stable internet connection.
After finding an opponent, there are important points that you can see above. However, what is different from the actual battle is that the first row (details of the opponent) only shows the "recently played teams " section.
You only have less than 3 minutes to "create a team ". So don't take too long to analyze your opponent's play patterns through his "recently played teams ".
After clicking the "Create Team " button, you are required to select the Summoner first and then select the monsters and their formations.
When you play on desktops and so on, you can easily shift the position of monsters by simply "left click and hold ". But if you're playing on a mobile browser, you'll have to click X to delete the monster and replace it with another one.
Once you've decided on your formation, press the Battle button before the time runs out. If you miss the remaining time, then you are considered "Surrender " (but sometimes you can still fight even though it is 3~5 seconds past the time limit, it is because the opponent has just finished setting up the formation and pressed the Battle button at the last second before the time limit expires).
During the battle, we will be given 2 choices. View the battle (Rumble button) or skip the battle (Skip to Results button). But for those of you who are still new, it is better to see the battle until the end as a lesson for you. You can also speed up the battle time up to 3 times if you don't want to "watch" the battle for too long.
In the actual battle, there will be ratings, rewards (Staked SPS), and the number of Focus Points (FP) obtained in each battle. The increase and decrease in ratings also depend on the opponent we face. If the difference in rank is still close, our rating will change by about 15~20, but if the difference is quite far. Then players with low ratings will increase by 25+ if they win and decrease by less than 10 if they lose. While players with higher ratings apply the opposite.
If you still don't understand the gameplay of Splinterlands based on my explanation, you can check it out here.
Strategy Tips for Beginners
If you have purchased the Summonner's Spellbook, you should review the strategy by practicing in PRACTICE mode and viewing the battles in TOP BATTLES (as there may be a high "power" difference).
Although you get 3000 Credits from purchasing Summonner's Spellbook, don't use it to buy cards right away. Use some of the available platforms such as PEAKMONSTER or MONSTERMARKET to rent some cards first. Or you can also borrow one of the card decks provided by NFTY ARCADE with a profit-sharing system (the DECK owner only gets a portion of the Staked SPS aka In-game Currency and Card Pack while you as a tenant will get the rest, including cards).
And if 3000 Credits isn't enough and you don't want to spend real money, you can use blogging platforms like PeakD, Hive Blog, and Ecency (as well as SPLINTERTALK which specializes in Splinterlands) to make extra money.
After successfully purchasing Summonner's Spellbook, you are also enrolled into the HIVE ecosystem and can access all the DApps within it (other than the ones I mentioned earlier).
Share Your Early Experience
When I first started playing, I could only play in the Bronze League because at that time I didn't know if there were card rental platforms like Peakmonster and so on. But after I started writing on one of the Blogging Platforms in HIVE, I earned some extra money, and some of the money I used to buy and rent some cards so that I ventured to play in a higher league.
Sad Facts (But I don't really want to scare you)
for new players, the battles in the lower leagues (NOVICE to SILVER) are quite difficult and you need a lot of cards to use in each battle. BUT THAT'S JUST MY PERSONAL OPINION BECAUSE I HAVEN'T PLAYED IN THAT LEAGUE FOR A LONG TIME, I CURRENTLY PLAY IN THE SILVER & GOLD LEAGUE.
Those are the kinds of things I discussed in this Social Media Challenge. Thank you for reading to the end and see you in other discussions in next week's Social Media Challenge.
For those of you who are still confused about what I have explained in this post, you can read the splinterlands document version (because some of the explanation I took from there)
Or you can visit help center or community platforms such as Discord and Telegram
For those of you who are curious and want to experience how fierce the battles are in the Modern League but haven't joined Splinterlands yet, you can use THIS LINK.
