Hi dear hivers and travel lovers around. My name is Andro Liuben and this is my first post here in this wonderful community... the first out of many to come, I hope. I'm a professional Graphic Designer and Photographer based in Havana, Cuba, and I love to travel. As you all will see later on, sometimes I'm the traveller, sometimes I'm the photographer.
Old Havana, that classic and absolutely gorgeus side of the city, is one of my favourite spots to make photoshoots. You'll see a lot of it... but not all at once 😁😉👍 This time I wanted to show you the view from a specific point of this beautiful place. It's a classic building called Gomez Vila, built in 1909 to serve as the headquarter of the Ministry of Foreign Trade of that time. It's located in one of the corners of Old Square, one of the first open spaces in Havana by the 16th century.
The Old Square in Old Havana. Yes, everything is very, very old around here.
Gomez Vila building, the place where we are heading today. To its rooftop, exactly.
So, we entered the place. A small fee must be paid first, and, from there, straight to the elevator, all the way to the rooftop. What you'll find there? The first and most important attraction is the so called "Dark Chamber". Inside, there's a periscope installed by the english company Siden Optical, following a Leonardo DaVinci's design which allows people enjoy incredible views of Havana city.
The second attraction is what brings me here. And that's the chance you'll get to have those views in person, right with your own eyes so you can believe it yourself! Bellow is the back view and the closest you can have, 'cause this is the street where the building you're on is located.
Now, if you look a little further, to one side of where you are, you will see the bay area of Havana. It was by chance that I got so lucky that a cruise ship was leaving at that exact time and what do you think? I immediately took the shot with my camera so I can now share it with all of you this indelible moment. Is it just me, or does the ship seem to be moving down some street through the buildings?
Last but not least is the front view. You have to lean a little because the wall is a bit high and forward. It is, again, the Old Square that I had already shown you before, but now from above. I hope you have enjoyed this brief but intense tour of this very interesting part of the city.
Stay tuned for more stories from my Havana and all over Cuba! Meanwhile, I invite you to my blog @androliuben
