David commands your attention from all points of view. Your perspective changes when you look to the left, at the definition of muscles that the artist managed to convey in pieces of stone, and then look to the right, into the frightened but determined eyes of a simple man ready to fight a giant Goliath.
The statue stands alone in the center of the rotunda of the Accademia in Florence, because no other works of art can compete for your attention. Although Michelangelo's captives are worth exploring before leaving the museum.
Visit the Monaco Grand Prix
Grace Kelly may have put Monaco on the map, but in fact the country of less than one square mile has been her own slice of independence in the south of France since the 15th century.
The population varies depending on the season, but averages 37,000 people, which is seven times more than during Formula 1 Grand Prix races. Want a little more action? Take a road trip through it and drive a Ferrari to Monaco there yourself.
Take a carriage ride through the Old Town of Krakow
Krakow is a beautiful Polish city steeped in history and culture. The beautiful Old Town and the medieval Wawel Palace are always worth your time, especially if you take a leisurely stroll in one of the city's famous horse-drawn carriages.
They line up around the market square and offer a once-in-a-lifetime experience for visitors.
Hiking in the Caucasus to Georgia
Whether you're a day hiker or an experienced mountaineer, there's no better way to explore Georgia's topography-and get an idea of local life without filtering—than to walk through it.
In Svaneti, a remote northwestern province where locals travel on horseback and prehistoric UNESCO World Heritage watchtowers dot the horizon, you can embark on a four-day walk from Mestia to Ushguli - the highest permanently inhabited settlement in Europe - to spend the night in family guest houses along the way.
Admire the fjords of Western Norway
You can't think of Norway without thinking of fjords, and there are two of the most impressive examples of the country in the western part of the country: Geiranger Fjord (pictured) and Nereifjord.
These UNESCO-listed wonders are surrounded by steep crystalline rock walls and rocky mountains, as well as landscapes dotted with waterfalls, glacial lakes and forests. There is nothing better than sailing up and down the Norwegian coast, enjoying the views and hospitality of neighboring Bergen.
Listen to music in the Faroe Islands
On the island of Eysturoy—one of the Faroe Islands of the archipelago between Iceland and Norway-there is a village with a year-round population that could fill a lecture hall at a university. In this village of Sidrugota (pop. 400); there are no multinational chains of coffee shops.
But every summer, one of the best music festivals in Europe is organized here, which attracts artists from all over the world and which brings the Faroe Islands out of the shadow of their neighbors. G!
The festival kicks off with the Faroe Islands' summer music scene, a lively lineup that includes the Olavsoka Festival (celebrating the islands' national holiday with a big concert) and the Summerfestivalurin pop music festival, which takes over Klaksvik, the second largest city in the Faroe Islands, in August.
