This is another edition of my Art from the Streets series, I did in Lagos as well as Lisbon, Portugal before. This time the art comes from the streets of one of the most beautiful cities, Cape Town.
There is street art on so many corners here in Cape Town but one district deserves special mention, the suburb of Woodstock that is the heart of art here in Cape Town. As mentioned many times before now we were lucky enough to find a streetart tour guide who gave us a 1 hour tour through this urban district and it was amazing.
As I will save most of the big murals for the CCC's Street Art Contest there are still dozens of smaller pieces I will show you today.
The next one for example is pretty well known here and comes from an artist called Emily May Rose from canada. She does these Racoons and you will find them on a few corners here in Woodstock. Very simple but yet just great and funny art.
Down below, the one on the right side is the same. Very simple art but cleanly executed and very colourful. His name is Bushy Wopp and there will be much more big murals from him coming in the next weeks.
That next one was one of my favourite out of the smaller pieces on that day. That painting was there for about two years and then someone came up with the idea to cover half of it with some kind of future style edition of it. Absolutely awesome, this is art...at least in my eyes.
Apart from these few I managed to take dozens of photos of amazing streetart, small, big, huge, colourful, black and white, there is a bit of everything in Woodstock. Some are already faded that bad that you can hardly identify anything but it is still art. You either love it or you don´t.
There is also quite a big amount of abstract art on the walls which I start to really like as well. One artists name is Ellena Lourens and here work is literally everywhere. She only uses these soft colours and that´s what identifies here work.
Or how about an abstract version of the map of south africa? Do you see the map of south africa here? Needs a lot of imagination I guess as I can´t see it. But thats art right?
Even after all the paintings I´ve postet I could go on for hours. I did not expect to see that many paintings on one suburb alone and as I heard there is much more in other parts I haven´t even been to.
But a few more to end this post.
I will definitely do another part of this as I got tons of colourful walls from the suburb of Woodstock alone and already discovered some great paintings in the CBD of Cape Town so you should definitely come back to my blog if you like streetart.
