My neighbour Dave shared another whisky with me. We had just set up our swimming pool. We have to lay out some sheets and unfold the pool before filling it up. That takes a couple of days of running the hose. We also had to haul out the heavy filter pump and ladder. Dave said he had a new bottle he had not opened.
Well first I got out my Glenmorangie and my whisky glasses so we could have a shot of that first. This was nice drunk straight.
Apparently this sort of measure might be referred to as a 'damp glass' in Ireland, i.e. they like a large on.
He got the Darkness (not related to the band of that name as far as I know) on a trip to Scotland. This is not a cheap bottle, but then it is very nice.
It had quite a hit to it, so we added some water to make it much smoother and very nice it was too. Apparently it is matured in small sherry barrels called octaves. I am no good at describing tastes, so you will have to search out reviews by others. I just know what I like.
It is always nicer to drink with a friend and we can find lots of moments to celebrate.
We have a tradition that my son is first to get in the pool each year. He did that when he got home from his job at the swimming pool. He was not impressed by the temperature. He and his girlfriend had a swim this last weekend, but said it was still cold. It takes a while to warm up and given the temperature has dropped today I will wait until I get in. I do look forward to it.
Cheers!
