Hello friends, I hope you're having a lovely day. This post will be my entry for the Gaming Photography Weekly Contest – Theme: Your Best Picks. Hope you enjoy it. As you know, I recently shared that I’ve been replaying Final Fantasy VII Remake—an adventure steeped in nostalgia for those of us who experienced the original on PlayStation 1, or its other iterations like Dirge of Cerberus and Crisis Core. No doubt, this remake brings plenty of improvements compared to the limitations of the original’s hardware and software. Beautiful character models and, above all, stunning scenic shots present a world in crisis, steeped in that perfect cyberpunk vibe.
The first scene I’m sharing shows the exterior of the chapel where Aerith tends to her iconic flowers. It’s a place rich in symbolism—on one hand, there’s the beauty and solemnity of a sacred structure like the chapel. Let’s remember Aerith embodies innocence and purity, as well as healing. On the other hand, we have the sky beneath the slums, dominated by sharp, jagged, aggressive metal structures, echoing Cloud’s visual design. He’s initially portrayed as cold and distant, and every aspect of his look screams rebellion and danger—like his spiky hair, for example. I especially liked this first shot featuring Cloud as the protagonist and forming a visual divide of contrast.

Accompanying Aerith reveals the lowest strata of Midgar’s society—those left behind, living in the shadows cast by the dizzying advance of technology towering above humankind. You’ll find contrast in every corner: pigeons nestled among heaps of scrap, tufts of grass and little blossoms breaking through debris, a lively orphanage filled with children playing, and even the very sky itself. All of it speaks to the duality woven throughout Chapter 8 and the whole of Sector 5.

To close this selection of my 7 favorite shots capturing the reunion between Aerith and Cloud, and their journey through Sector 5, I’d like to share a beautiful overhead image of them gathering flowers to bring to the orphanage. It’s a final vision of two forces reconciled and working together. Without a doubt, I believe this game offers immense visual storytelling—every scene is worthy of being immortalized.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this entry. And if you haven’t played Final Fantasy VII yet, I highly recommend it as a gateway into a vast universe full of power, struggle, resilience, and magic. See you in a future blog—bye!
