We move forward to a new week and it is exciting for the community to announce this week's initiative, which aims to encourage reflection and creativity based on semiotics in our daily lives. Before explaining what this fun activity that we promote from Humanitas is all about, let's thank and acknowledge those who participated during week 11 on the topic of Politics:

Do you know what semiotics is?

It is a theory to which many authors have contributed over the decades, among them Charles Sanders Peirce, Ferdinad de Saussure, Umberto Eco, among others, in a general way the conceptualization of semiotics refers to:

To the study of sign systems whose representation is limited to a social agreement that helps to understand the forms of communication of cultures.

How we interpret the environment and this acquires a different meaning for each person, for example: a tree (the signifier) is a plant with trunk, branches and leaves; however, when a person hears or reads the word tree, their senses or (meanings) are associated with their sensory perception, memories or experiences of each of them. A tree to someone, may be a tree in autumn with dry leaves or leafy and colorful in spring, a child's drawing, to other people it may be the tree house or a source of food. This is also known as semantics.

Finally, it is the relationship between signs and the use that people make of this, which is known as pragmatics. In turn, semiotics addresses a complexity in terms of symbols, signs, icons, codes, it is not our intention to delve into theories, since for this you can consult through the infinite research options on the web, however we want to clarify that semiotics is present in everything we perceive and do in routine, in other words, in the clothes we wear, in the brands of food products we decide to eat, in the religion we practice, in how we understand a natural phenomenon, among other processes of human nature or artificial, the latter created or designed with an intention, for example advertising for the masses.

Now, what is the initiative about?

To ground the theory, we would like to invite you to carry out an exercise that allows you to generate your own creative and critical interpretation based on a specific image about something common to all of society, but experienced in different ways in terms of what is the value of work for you, taking into account the following criteria:

Choose an image of your preference from free and quality banks such as pixabay, pexels or own photos, taking care of the quality of it.
As a reference, you can choose images related to your work routines, what work is for you, how you experience work, what it reflects or how you describe it through an image.

Keep in mind that you should analyze the signs or elements present that are perhaps commonly known, although they make a difference when you manage to give them their own "meaning" or "senses". Remember to cite the source of the image, but above all enjoy the process of creation.

The rules for the initiative are the same for each week:

Post with no less than 500 words per languages.
If you do it in video format with a minimum length of 3 minutes, use 3Speak.
Be sure to use good spelling.
Use the hashtags #humanitas and #humanculture.
Comment on other entries.
Invite at least one other person to participate in the initiative.

Remember:

We seek originality and creativity, therefore, under no circumstances do we admit plagiarism, we want to promote critical thinking and healthy debate, during the last weeks we have managed to demonstrate that as a community we can address issues that may be controversial in principle, or tend towards the controversial, but that if we approach it with criteria, with discursive responsibility and above all empathy and respect, there is no need to polemicize the points of view, always with criteria and willingness to mood we can create deep and thoughtful dialogues collaborating in the construction of knowledge on the web3.

Iniciativa Cultura Humana semana 12: La semiótica en la cotidianidad

Avanzamos a una nueva semana y es emocionante para la comunidad anunciar la iniciativa de esta semana, la cual tiene como propósito incentivar la reflexión y creatividad con base en la semiótica en nuestra cotidianidad. Antes de explicar de qué trata esta divertida actividad que promovemos desde Humanitas, vamos a darles el agradecimiento y reconocimiento a quienes participaron durante la semana número 11 sobre el tema Política:

¿Sabes qué es la semiótica?

Es una teoría a la que muchos autores han aportado a lo largo de las décadas, entre ellos Charles Sanders Peirce, Ferdinad de Saussure, Umberto Eco, entre otros, de manera general la conceptualización de semiótica se refiere a: Al estudio de los sistemas de signos cuya representación se limita a un acuerdo social que ayuda a comprender las formas de comunicación de las culturas.

Cómo interpretamos el entorno y este adquiere un sentido diferente para cada quien, por ejemplo: un árbol (el significante) es una planta con tronco, ramas y hojas; sin embargo, cuando una persona escucha o lee la palabra árbol, sus sentidos o (significados) están asociados a su percepción sensorial, los recuerdos o las experiencias de cada una de ellas. Un árbol para alguien, puede un árbol en otoño de hojas secas o frondosos y colorido en primavera, un dibujo de un niño, para otras personas puede ser la casa del árbol o una fuente de alimento. Esto es conocido también como semántica.

Por último, es la relación entre los signos y el uso que las personas le dan a esto, que se conoce como pragmática. A su vez, la semiótica aborda una complejidad en cuanto a símbolos, señales, iconos, códigos, no es nuestra intención ahondar en teorías, puesto que para ello pueden consultar mediante las infinitas opciones de investigación en la web, no obstante queremos aclarar que la semiótica está presente en todo lo que percibimos y hacemos en la rutina, en otras palabras, en la ropa que usamos, en las marcas de productos alimenticios que decidimos comer, en la religión que practicamos, en cómo entendemos un fenómeno natural, entre otros procesos propios de la naturaleza humana o artificiales, este último creado o diseñado con una intención, por ejemplo la publicidad para las masas.

Ahora bien, ¿De qué trata la iniciativa?

Para aterrizar la teoría, queremos invitarles a realizar un ejercicio que les permita generar una interpretación propia, creativa y crítica con base en una imagen específica sobre algo común para toda la sociedad, pero experimentada de maneras diferentes en cuanto a ¿qué es el valor del trabajo para ti?, para ello deben tomar en cuenta los siguientes criterios:

Escoger una imagen de su preferencia de bancos gratuitos y de calidad como pixabay, pexels o fotos propias, cuidando la calidad de la misma.
Como referencia pueden escoger imágenes relacionadas con sus rutinas laborales, qué es para ustedes el trabajo, cómo vives el trabajo, qué lo refleja o cómo lo describen mediante una imagen.

Tener en cuenta que deben analizar los signos o elementos presentes que son quizás comúnmente conocidos, aunque hacen la diferencia cuando logran darles su propio “significado” o “sentidos”. Recuerda citar la fuente de la imagen, pero sobre todo disfruta el proceso de creación.

Las reglas para la iniciativa son las mismas para cada semana:

Post con no menos de 500 palabras por idiomas.
Si lo haces en formato de video que posea una duración mínima de 3 minutos, utiliza 3Speak.
Asegúrate de utilizar buena ortografía.
Utiliza las etiquetas #humanitas y #humanculture
Comenta otras participaciones.

Buscamos originalidad y creatividad, por tanto, bajo ninguna circunstancia admitimos el plagio, queremos promover el pensamiento crítico y el sano debate, durante las últimas semanas hemos logrado demostrar que como comunidad podemos abordar temáticas que pueden ser en principio polémicas, o tender hacia lo polémico, pero que si le abordamos con criterios, con responsabilidad discursiva y sobre todo empatía y respeto, no hay necesidad de polemizar los puntos de vista, siempre con criterio y disposición de ánimo podemos crear diálogos profundos y reflexivos colaborando en la construcción de conocimientos en la web3.
