After a short arrangement, I met a good childhood friend of mine for lunch today.
The two of us know each other very well, we have been hanging out non-stop for 40 years and there are almost no secrets between us.
In any case, we are very rational people and do not succumb to the influence of the environment, which tries to impose gathering in fancy places.
For the two of us, a small cafe, in the immediate vicinity of our buildings where we live, is the right choice.
Tucked away, warm, a cafe with a soul.
We arrived unannounced, so the waitress, in addition to announcing that we would have to wait a little longer for our food, seated us at a spare table (until one in the restaurant is empty), right next to this "Time machine".
And we didn't plan to eat right away, the plan was to talk a lot and drink a bit.
And it didn't even occur to us to change the place.
Why?
Because with a few glasses of brandy, we looked at the props on these shelves and remembered the items in our grandparents' houses.
My friend started first, who mentioned an old radio, identical to this big one, that he still has at his grandmother's house.
That radio still picks up radio stations, and although the sound quality isn't that great, he loves to turn it on and sometimes listens to a radio program.
We have never seen this smaller black transistor until now, and its brand is Russian, "Sokol".
Behind the radio, a bottle of the famous Rubin vinjak peeked shyly.
We didn't touch her, we had our drinks.
Next to the radio, I grabbed a small metal avan that could have been used for crushing spices.
On the middle shelf was a beautiful example of a telephone. We can still see such retro models in use, with the fact that instead of dials, there are number buttons on them.
This example on display is with a dial, and I'd bet that some of the younger people who stop by #TBT don't know how to use this device?
I know. I'm not young, I had a similar device in my parents' home.
Next to the phone, there is some kind of mill, but I don't know what, a model of a sailing ship and a small copper pot.
In restaurants in pots like these, soups are still served, most often fish soup.
On the top shelf, next to the Singer sewing machine, which may still be working, two irons caught my attention.
My aunt had a similar model Singer sewing machine, but not electric, but with a foot pedal, which had to be pressed down to move the needle. I played with sewing machines as a child, but never with a Singer. My mother is a seamstress and she used Bagat sewing machines. Whether I was just playing or sometimes I sewed something, let it remain a secret🙂
I mentioned irons.
One, with a red handle, is the same one that each of my friends' mothers had in their home, but this second one, black, is a real throwback to the past.
My grandmother had such an iron.
Ironing with this iron is very difficult (as everything was in the first half of the 20th century), and one must take care of the movements, if the desire is to keep the laundry white and clean.
Because this iron heats its plate with hot coals that are poured into the iron. When the temperature of the ironing board drops, by quickly swinging the iron left and right, air is introduced to the carbon, which further ignites it and thus heats up the iron board.
During these movements, it happened that a piece of embers fell out of the iron and thus soiled the clothes that were being ironed.
Today, that is no longer the case, we have electric irons, steam irons, everything is designed to make life easier for people. And everything is still difficult for a man...
And just when we analyzed all the details on the shelves, in the lowest corner, we noticed an antique coffee grinder.
Such a mill is familiar to both me and my friend, because both he and I, when we were kids, in order to sit in the company of adults, got our hands on such mills, which we used to grind coffee for them endlessly.
