Hello friends of Hive and the TBT community, it is a pleasure to join you once again despite the late arrival, to share the outcome of my musical history with my old rock band Teoría Cero. This is the last post about it because it was only a few months with the new members; last time I told you that we had a drummer who was working with another band and due to commitments with those guys, he had to leave the band, something that I sincerely expected for several reasons.
The idea was to release many of my songs in acoustic format and since many food places were hiring live bands at that time, we wanted to find a way to enter this new facet promoting ourselves in another way... with a couple of songs recorded in studio and 2 music videos of those songs.
With this great TBT that will become a FBF by the hour, I will show you the recording process of the songs and videos through photos, likewise, in the video you can see part of the rehearsals prior to these recordings and music videos... Hola amigos de Hive y de la comunidad TBT, es un gusto acompañarles una vez más a pesar de lo tarde que llego, para compartir el desenlace de mi historia musical con mi antigua banda de rock Teoría Cero. Es el último post al respecto porque fueron pocos meses junto con los nuevos integrantes; la vez pasada les comenté que tuvimos un baterista que trabajaba con otra banda y por compromisos con esos chicos, tuvo que abandonar la banda, algo que sinceramente me esperaba por diversos motivos.
La idea era sacar muchas de mis canciones en formato acústico y en vista de que muchos locales de comida contrataban bandas en vivo en esa época, quisimos buscar la manera de entrar en esta nueva faceta promocionándonos de otra forma... con un par de canciones grabadas en estudio y 2 videos musicales de dichas canciones.
Con este gran TBT que se convertirá por la hora en un FBF, les mostraré el proceso de grabación de las canciones y videos mediante fotos, de igual forma, en el video podrán ver parte de los ensayos previos a esas grabaciones y a los videos musicales... When we set the goal of recording 2 of my songs in acoustic format at a professional level, I think it only took about 3 weeks between rehearsals and the recording in the studio. Something that motivated us a lot and that I told it here in Hive, was that my brother was studying with a very talented guy who had started in the world of music videos. This guy named Jorge Lozada, who today works making videos with great directors, proposed us to make the videos after my brother told him what we had in mind, without hesitating much he accepted because it would also be the first time he directed a music video with a band. We recorded the songs in the Deveron music studio, located near the university where I studied psychology in Maracay-Venezuela. First we set up the instruments, warmed up a bit and then proceeded to record everything live and in one take, nothing was recorded separately.
Cuando nos trazamos la meta de grabar a nivel profesional 2 de mis canciones en formato acústico, creo que solo pasaron unas 3 semanas entre ensayos y la grabación en el estudio. Algo que nos motivó mucho y que lo conté en alguna oportunidad aquí en Hive, fue que mi hermano estudiaba con un chico muy talentoso y que había iniciado en el mundo de los videos musicales. Este chico llamado Jorge Lozada y quien hoy trabaja haciendo videos con grandes directores, nos propuso hacer los videos luego de que mi hermano le contara lo que teníamos en mente, sin titubear mucho el aceptó porque además, sería la 1era vez que dirigía un video musical con una banda. Las canciones las grabamos en el estudio musical Deveron, ubicado cerca de la universidad donde estudié psicología en Maracay-Venezuela. Primero alistamos los instrumentos, calentamos un poco y luego procedimos a grabar todo en vivo y en una sola toma, nada se grabó aparte.
Looking for a location to shoot the videos, I immediately thought of the roof of my house, basically because of the view and because the sun would favor the lighting. Jorge listened to the songs and liked the material, after that we met with him to talk about the recording location and he agreed.
All this happened a week after we had recorded in the studio; our families were very excited and looking forward to the final result. After having lunch together we proceeded with the help of several friends to bring up all the backline for the recording, as well as Jorge's equipment which consisted of camera, accessories and lighting fixtures.
Buscando una locación para grabar los videos, de inmediato pensé en el techo de mi casa, básicamente por la vista y porque el sol nos iba a favorecer para la iluminación. Jorge escuchó las canciones y le gustó el material, seguido a eso nos reunimos con él para hablarle sobre el lugar de grabación y estuvo de acuerdo.
Todo esto ocurrió una semana después de haber grabado en el estudio; nuestras familias estaban muy emocionadas y pendientes del resultado final. Después de almorzar todos juntos procedimos con ayuda de varios amigos, a subir todo el backline para la grabación, al igual que el equipo de Jorge que constaba de cámara, accesorios y faros de iluminación.
Already in the afternoon with a good sun, we started with the filming adjustments; Jorge was looking for angles to record and adjusting the performance of the camera so that the recording was as neat as possible. With everything in order, we started recording the song “Por Siempre”, which would be the 1st single of our new music catalog. Jorge did a wonderful job as he filmed us playing together and then wanted to take separate shots of each of us to give more dynamism to the video. With this song we would make ourselves known with this new format, so Jorge put a lot of effort in the production and postproduction.
Ya en horas de la tarde con un buen sol, empezamos con los ajustes de la filmación; Jorge buscaba ángulos para grabar y ajustaba el performance de la cámara para que la grabación fuese lo más pulcra posible. Con todo en orden, empezamos a grabar la canción "Por Siempre", la cual sería el 1er sencillo de nuestro nuevo catálogo musical. Jorge hizo un trabajo maravilloso ya que nos grabó tocando juntos y luego quiso hacer tomas por separado de cada uno para darle más dinamismo al video. Con esta canción nos daríamos a conocer con este nuevo formato, por lo que Jorge puso mucho empeño en la producción y postproducción.
The first recording came out spectacular; the shots were very well done and everything flowed perfectly in the environment. As the sun was going down, we took a little break to shoot the 2nd video; Jorge reviewed what was done in the 1st video and in the course of that I was able to take some pictures with the guys. My brother looked very happy, he helped Jorge at all times, they both made a great working team. When the sun was already more hidden, we decided to place the headlights to illuminate; the contrast in the sky of the sun and the little light that remained in sight, made the sunset look between reddish and orange, seeing that gave us a lot of peace and calm to start with the next video.
La primera grabación salió espectacular; las tomas fueron muy bien hechas y todo fluía perfectamente en el ambiente. Mientras el sol se iba ocultando, tomábamos un pequeño descanso para filmar el 2do video; Jorge revisaba lo hecho en el 1er video y en ese transcurso pude hacer algunas fotografías con los chicos. Mi hermano se veía muy contento, el ayudó a Jorge en todo momento, ambos hacían un gran equipo de trabajo. Cuando ya el sol se ocultaba más, decidimos colocar los faros para iluminar; el contraste en el cielo del sol y la poca luz que quedaba a la vista, hizo que el atardecer se viera entre rojizo y naranja, ver eso nos dio mucha paz y calma para iniciar con el siguiente video.
“Desde que te Fuiste” was the 2nd song; I love that song more than the previous one because I wrote it in less than a week and it explored a new sound taking into account some records I had listened to at that time by a progressive rock band called Porcupine Tree. With this song I changed a little bit the way I was composing and precisely because it was so different, this song has a special place in my personal repertoire. This shoot was much more relaxing, there was a great breeze, there were neighbors watching us record and the energy was very harmonious between all of us. Many of our fellow musicians who knew we were recording were texting us to see if they could visit us after work to hear our anecdotes during the process.
"Desde que te Fuiste" fue la 2da canción; yo amo esa canción más que la anterior porque la compuse en menos de una semana y además exploraba un sonido nuevo teniendo en cuenta unos discos que había escuchado para esos días de una banda de rock progresivo llamada Porcupine Tree. Con esta canción cambié un poco la forma en como componía y justamente por ser tan diferente, es que esta canción tiene un lugar especial en mi repertorio personal. Esta filmación fue mucho más relajante, se sentía una brisa muy genial, habían vecinos viéndonos grabar y la energía que había era de mucha armonía entre todos nosotros. Muchos de nuestros colegas músicos que sabían que estábamos grabando, nos enviaban mensajes de texto para saber si podían visitarnos luego de la jornada de trabajo y así conocer nuestras anécdotas durante el proceso.
This day of work ended successfully, if I remember correctly, we finished recording at almost 6 pm. After that, we took down all the equipment we used and sat down to rest. We talked a lot and shared a great dinner with a toast to celebrate. A few days later Jorge sends my brother the result and I was the one who saw everything first with him, by late afternoon that day the guys came with other very special friends of the band to watch both videos before uploading them to YouTube and before showing them to the public. Everyone was amazed with the result and we congratulated Jorge for his great work, I do not remember if we cried with emotion, what I do remember is that in my heart I could not fit so much joy because I had fulfilled one of my greatest dreams as a musician ... to have a music video.
Thanks to this work we began to receive offers to play in various places and promote our music, but unfortunately at that time my country was going through one of the many crises it has faced in the social sphere making the atmosphere tense and a little dangerous. With this panorama many bands began to disintegrate because of the situation and many left Venezuela, fracturing the work of many years of great artists of my city. In the case of Teoría Cero, the work consumed each one of us a lot and we had to postpone rehearsals most of the time, leaving in the air plans and schedules already established.
Little by little, the definitive end of the band came; with a lot of pain I was saying goodbye to a stage that made me dream big and that raised my spirits to the top. I saw a great future for my band as well as for the boys and our families, but that hope of going far vanished when the word migration started to appear in our minds...
I feel that I can still continue with this dream, only that time has not allowed me to do so, besides that now in the country where I am, it is more complex because of the high cost of retaking this project. I will not lose faith, no matter if I have to start with another name for the band, no matter who will be the new members or how will be the new way of working, I want to make music again and feel once again what it is like to be on stage in front of many people enjoying my songs. I am very grateful to God for what I lived with all the members of the band, from the old ones to the last ones that arrived and I am also grateful for the training I have had here in Hive to have more experience in music, since here I have done things I never thought I would do. I want to thank those who read me and watch the video, with this post I close the stage of a dream that is still alive even if it transforms and I thank those who have been great teachers in this musical path 🙏❤️... Este día de trabajo culminó exitosamente, si mal no recuerdo, terminamos de grabar casi a las 6 de la tarde. Luego de ello, bajamos todo el equipo que usamos y nos sentamos a descansar. hablamos mucho y compartimos una grandiosa cena con brindis para celebrar. A los pocos días Jorge le envía a mi hermano el resultado y yo fui quien vio todo primero con él, para horas de la tarde de ese día los chicos vinieron con otros amigos muy especiales de la banda para ver ambos videos antes de subirlos a YouTube y antes mostrarlos al público. Todos quedaron estupefactos con el resultado y felicitamos a Jorge por su grandiosa labor, no recuerdo si llegamos a llorar de la emoción, lo que si recuerdo es que en mi corazón no cabía tanta alegría porque había cumplido uno de mis grandes sueños como músico... tener un video musical.
Gracias a este trabajo empezamos a recibir ofertas para tocar en varios lugares y promocionar nuestra música, pero lamentablemente en ese momento mi país atravesaba una de las muchas crisis que ha enfrentado en el ámbito social volviendo el ambiente tenso y un poco peligroso. Con este panorama muchas bandas empezaron a desintegrarse por la situación y muchos se fueron de Venezuela quedando fracturado el trabajo de muchos años de grandes artistas de mi ciudad. En el caso de Teoría Cero, el trabajo nos consumió mucho a cada uno y tocaba postergar ensayos la mayoría de las veces, dejando en el aire planes y programaciones ya establecidas.
Fue así como poco a poco, el final definitivo de la banda llegó; con mucho dolor yo me estaba despidiendo de una etapa que me hizo soñar en grande y que subía mis ánimos al tope. Yo veía un gran futuro para mi banda al igual que los chicos y nuestras familias, pero esa esperanza de llegar lejos se esfumó cuando ya empezaba a aparecer en nuestras mentes la palabra migración...
Siento que todavía puedo seguir con este sueño, solo que el tiempo no me lo ha permitido, además que ahora en el país en donde estoy, es más complejo por el alto costo que tiene retomar este proyecto. No perderé la fe, no importa si debo empezar con otro nombre para la banda, tampoco importa quienes serán los nuevos integrantes o como será la nueva forma de trabajar, quiero hacer música nuevamente y sentir una vez más lo que es estar en una tarima frente a mucha gente disfrutando mis canciones. Agradezco mucho a Dios lo que viví con todos los miembros de la banda, desde los antiguos hasta los últimos que llegaron y también agradezco la formación que he tenido aquí en Hive para tener más experiencia en la música, ya que aquí he hecho cosas que jamás pensé hacer. Quiero darle las gracias a quienes me lean y vean el video, con este post cierro la etapa de un sueño que sigue vigente aunque se transforme y agradezco a quienes han sido grandes maestros en este camino musical 🙏❤️...
