My goodness! Just as I was scrolling down my gallery grid, I stumbled on these pictures. It was taken two years ago. The funny thing is, none of the ladies in these pictures still live in this town. In fact, they were corpers who came in from different parts of Nigeria. I never knew them until they came to J-town to serve their fatherland. You know, that thing called youth service that graduates embark on, which lasts for just a year. I was lucky to become friends with them when they came to shop for items from my shop. It was the consistency of their frequent purchases that drew us closer.
They stayed just for a year, and after they were done and about to go back to their various hometowns, we decided to go on a girls' hangout. Each person had to contribute something to what we would consume while hanging out. I made Nigerian jollof rice, another made peppered beef, another made salad, and the last person bought both drinks and water.
It was a mad fun hangout. We tried to create as many memories as we could because we did not know when next we would get to see each other. I was feeling a bit sad, but I had to enjoy that day like it was the last day we ever got to be together—hopefully not.
Since they didn't really know J-town and I was the only one familiar with places we could hang out, I suggested the wildlife park because, aside from the animals and echoes of the trees and wind, it's less noisy. We picked a day that had fewer activities going on. They didn't have to pay a dime for transportation because I volunteered to drive them in my car, to and fro. I was to pick them from a certain bus stop, which I did, although they were an hour late and it was about to rain—but we still made it.
The first thing we did was to have a look at all the animals, but we spent majority of the time with Mr. Elephant, as he was the oldest animal there, it was interesting to hear about his history. He was fun and showed some acts of communication, which was not hard to detect. I could remember Rejoice was a bit scared of feeding Mr. Elephant—I too was scared, but Rejoice was being dramatic even though she loves Mr. Elephant, haha! It was lovely to see that she later fed him a cup of ice cream. By the way, Mr. Elephant loves ice cream so much, funnily enough, he does not get full of it.
After that, we proceeded to a playground where we had the most fun. But first, it was lunchtime and we were already exhausted from walking around the park. So we had lunch at the playground, gossiped, and laughed about a lot of things. It was 100% fun.
Then, when we finished eating and drinking, we rekindled our childhood memories by playing on the swing, the slide and we also played some games which were filled with laughter because Rejoice fell in a hilarious manner. You needed to see it. Oh, what a memory!

Madre mía. Justo cuando me desplazaba por la cuadrícula de mi galería, encontré estas fotos. Fueron tomadas hace dos años. Lo curioso es que ninguna de las señoras de estas fotos vive todavía en esta ciudad. De hecho, eran corperas que llegaron de distintas partes de Nigeria. Tuve la suerte de entablar amistad con ellos cuando vinieron a comprar artículos de mi tienda. Fue la constancia de sus compras frecuentes lo que nos acercó.
Se quedaron sólo un año, y cuando acabaron y estaban a punto de volver a sus ciudades de origen, decidimos irnos de quedada de chicas. Cada una tenía que aportar algo a lo que íbamos a consumir mientras pasábamos el rato. Yo hice arroz jollof nigeriano, otra hizo ternera a la pimienta, otra ensalada y la última compró bebidas y agua.
Fue una reunión muy divertida. Intentamos crear tantos recuerdos como pudimos porque no sabíamos cuándo volveríamos a vernos. Me sentía un poco triste, pero tenía que disfrutar de ese día como si fuera el último en el que estuviéramos juntos; esperemos que no.
Como no conocían J-town y yo era la única familiarizada con los lugares por los que podíamos pasar el rato, sugerí el parque natural porque, aparte de los animales y los ecos de los árboles y el viento, es menos ruidoso. Elegimos un día con menos actividades. No tuvieron que pagar ni un céntimo de transporte porque me ofrecí a llevarlos en mi coche, de un lado a otro. Debía recogerlos en una parada de autobús determinada, y así lo hice, aunque llegaron con una hora de retraso y estaba a punto de llover, pero aun así lo conseguimos.
Lo primero que hicimos fue echar un vistazo a todos los animales, pero pasamos la mayor parte del tiempo con el Sr. Elefante, ya que era el animal más viejo de allí, fue interesante conocer su historia. Era divertido y mostraba algunos actos de comunicación, lo que no era difícil de detectar. Recuerdo que a Rejoice le daba un poco de miedo dar de comer al Sr. Elefante, a mí también me daba miedo, pero Rejoice estaba siendo dramática a pesar de que le encanta el Sr. Elefante, ¡jaja! Me encantó ver que después le dio de comer un helado. Por cierto, al Sr. Elefante le gusta tanto el helado que, curiosamente, no se llena.
Después, nos dirigimos a un parque infantil donde nos lo pasamos en grande. Pero antes, era la hora de comer y ya estábamos agotados de dar vueltas por el parque. Así que almorzamos en el parque infantil, cotilleamos y nos reímos de un montón de cosas. Fue 100% divertido.
Luego, cuando terminamos de comer y beber, revivimos nuestros recuerdos de la infancia jugando en el columpio, el tobogán y también jugamos a algunos juegos que nos llenaron de risa porque Rejoice se cayó de una manera divertidísima. Tenías que verlo. ¡Qué recuerdos!
