Tendría apenas unos tres meses haciendo vida en la plataforma anterior, cuando un día entra en el servidor de Discord de la comunidad @engranaje, un usuario que no conocía. Lo recuerdo bien porque me impresionó su velocidad mental para chatear y contestar con mucho humor, todo cuanto se comentaba en la actividad de curación y me atrajo esa manera dicharachera de ser. No era alguien común, sus respuestas a las reacciones de las personas eran diferentes.

I would have just about three months living on the previous platform, when one day a user I didn't know enters the Discord server of the @engranaje community. I remember it well because I was impressed by his mental speed to chat and answer with a lot of humor, everything that was commented in the curation activity and I was attracted by that blissful way of being. He was no ordinary person, his responses to people's reactions were different.
Era ese tipo de respuesta que te saca de lugar y te pone a pensar. Tienes que ser un tipo de persona muy especial para hacer eso. Con el tiempo, él siguió asistiendo a las curaciones en vivo y entablamos "amistad digital." Por ese tiempo, también, nació el proyecto @promo-mentors del cual me enteré por @rdelgadop, quien me invitó a pulir mis habilidades de redacción en el servidor de Discord de esa comunidad. El era facilitador allí junto con su esposa @kaizag, quien a su vez es hija de @oizaguirres. El caso es que ambos se encargaban de dar mentorías en dos niveles: ella en el básico y Ricardo en el avanzado.

The fact is that both of them were in charge of giving mentoring in two levels: she in the basic one and Ricardo in the advanced one.
Recuerdo la cantidad de horas en las noches que Ricardo me dedicó, pacientemente, para ayudar a convertirme en el escritor que soy. Era un tipo de mentoría muy especial y de la cual podías estar seguro que saldrías con nuevas herramientas. Tanto trabajamos juntos que fuimos forjando una amistad que nos encontró cenando en Maracay. Fue uno de mis primeros "Ciberamigos" en conocer personalmente. Nos citamos con nuestras respectivas esposas y pasamos un rato muy formidable. Nos reímos de lo lindo y el encuentro superó mis expectativas.
I remember the number of hours in the nights that Ricardo patiently dedicated to me to help me become the writer that I am. It was a very special kind of mentoring that you could be sure you would come away with new tools. We worked together so much that we forged a friendship that found us having dinner in Maracay. He was one of my first "Cyberfriends" to meet personally. We met with our respective wives and had a great time. We had a good laugh and the meeting exceeded my expectations.
Luego de aquel encuentro, nuestra relación se hizo más cercana y pasaba horas enviando gente a @promo-mentors para que aprendieran de él. Testigo de ello podría mencionar a @geadriana, entre otros que no recuerdo. Me llamó mucho la atención la humildad desde la cual manejó nuestro encuentro en persona, siendo un autor muy concienzudo y brillante; es decir, pensaba conseguir a alguien más estridente y la verdad, su personalidad en la vida real distaba mucho de su vida digital: era dicharachero en los chats, sí, pero muy sobrio en persona.

Esta mañana, luego de mi ronda de curación, revisaba la prensa digital y me conseguí con la terrible noticia de su partida, por culpa del mal que anda diezmando a medio mundo: COVID-19. Y fue allí que me enteré de "su otra vida", la real, la que decía era un dirigente del pueblo Pemón y ex-alcalde de La Gran Sabana, uno de los municipios más extensos de Venezuela y donde se encuentra el Parque Nacional más hermoso que he conocido sobre la faz de la tierra.

Claro que me habló del pueblo Pemón con orgullo, porque eran sus orígenes y nunca olvidó de dónde venía. Pero ¿Que había sido alcalde? ¿Que era un alto dirigente de ese pueblo? ¿Que era conocido en cada rincón de aquella inhóspita tierra? ¡Nunca! Hoy fue que comprendí porqué era tan ágil de mente. No puedes dirigir a toda una nación indígena si no tienes ese don de gente.

You can't lead an entire indigenous nation if you don't have that gift of people.
@fermionico tiene un antes y un después de @rdelgadop, no sabría explicar mi relación con la escritura sin él como componente esencial de quien me he llegado a convertir. Tengo una profunda gratitud con este tipo. Se lo dije más de una vez y hoy lo ratifico. Los grandes hombres siempre son recordados cuando se van. Pero sé que a través de mis escritos, el alma de Ricardo estará presente en cada letra, haciendo honor al valor más sagrado de un ser humano: la humildad.
@fermionico has a before and after @rdelgadop, I would not know how to explain my relationship with writing without it as an essential component of what I have become. I have a deep gratitude to this guy. I told him more than once and today I ratify it. Great men are always remembered when they leave. But I know that through my writings, Ricardo's soul will be present in every letter, honoring the most sacred value of a human being: humility.
