On more than one occasion I've questioned why is it that developers barely make posts.
I mean, the process of working on software is so complex, so full of little battles, that I naively thought they would have mountains of things to share. But, I think I get it now.
As some of you know, I'm jumping back on the wagon of Development Inc. It seems like a combination of today's tools, along with the fact that I seem to fail at convincing people to develop my ideas, has made this the only path forward for me. I thought, well, I guess I'll write about coding now, and this blog might turn into a developer's blog for a bit, but as you can see, it's barely happening, the blogging part, that is.
Just yesterday, I sat on my computer for about ten hours straight. I had to stop because the pain in my neck began to remind me of my frail humanity, but I didn't even finish finding the error I set out to fix. Yes, I'm having one of those roadblocks developers hate so much. I have a syntax error somewhere in my code, a wrong declaration, and I can't find it. I've even fed whole chunks of code straight to ChatGPT asking it to find my fumble, and even it can't identify where it is.
All that said, I'm aware of how this works. I'm confident it's going to be something very dumb, and I will laugh when I find it. But, for now at least, I'm going to write a little on this blog of mine and try to find some peace in doing so.
Switching gears
Speaking of the current app I'm working on, I think I've come up with a basic plan of sorts, and it's likely to be like this:
Hopefully in a few days, maybe a week tops, I will release a beta for Android, and make "a big post about it."
This release will include, of course, the sharing of the public repo for people to "inspect" the code.
This post/release will also be an invitation for people to give me feedback and improvement ideas. Maybe we can come up with a wish list of a kind.
Soon after this Android Beta release, I will ask my brother to help me with an iPhone version. That is his strength after all, and given the fact that I've been making this on React Native, it means that such a port is feasible.
If it all goes well, and with @joseamenac's (my brother) help, we would be able to release a non-beta working version for Hiveans who enjoy Snaps, and want the quick, convenient experience.
But after that, what comes next?
Well, I'm thinking that with a working app, something already out there, I can begin collecting feedback for a little while. Compiling what I'm calling wish lists and maybe tackling some of those items if they are within my skill set. Following @ecoinstant's model for being productive: low hanging fruit first. Simple, yet wise.
As you can see, I've not made any decisions as to how to compensate myself for this work, because as @acidyo said: it's too early to think about that. But I suspect it won't be hard to make that call when the time comes.
It's obvious to me that making this accessible to the most amount of people is in Hive's best interest. Imagine, a portable, simple Twitter clone where you can make money without grifting? I think that sounds appealing, and not just to us Hiveans. It could become an onboarding tool, a simple "bait" as I'm calling them.
Having said all that, there's already a list of things I'm not going to add on this first release, that I will add in the future for sure. In no particular order:
- Video support: playing embedded videos from YouTube and 3speak
- Incorporating Inleo Threads: they are the most active community after all
- Post previews: when people share post links on threads, displaying thumbnail and making the links clickable (it would open a browser, but yeah)
- Sharing: I feel like to get more eyes, it would need this. An ability for people to share their Snap easily to any Web2 platform. This would probably first generate the link to Peakd Snaps.

Random thoughts to close
A couple of days ago I was talking to my brother-in-law. He moved to Thailand some years back and he's one of those people who followed the now meme-type advice of "learn to code" to be able to afford his life abroad.
As you might guess, he graduated as a coder, but is having a hard time finding a job as one. A sad fact, I have to say. He did work for a little while applying his skills, but he too got laid off. A common thing from what I hear these days in the tech sector.
My older brother is also job hunting, and although what I'm sharing right now is anecdotal, I'm thinking it might not be. Which is to say, these new tools, this vibe coding thing, is only going to get better and better. Which means that there's little to no reason as to why a company would require large teams to develop even the most complex of projects. That leaves the coding grunts, or coding monkeys, as I call them affectionately, kind of redundant.
If that doesn't make sense to you, allow me an analogy that might help.
Imagine that creating a big software project is like making a skyscraper. An impressive building with all the latest and greatest innovations the world has to offer built right into its walls, literally. Now, imagine that the team of people that conceptualize this project are a combination of artists, engineers and visionaries. Now, think about how the thing begins being built.
There are no architects lifting buckets of sand, or mixing mortar. They are there, of course, overseeing everything. They are there to make sure that everything is being built to spec, but aside from wearing hard hats, they don't have to even look like the people sweating under the sun.
My point is that the leaders of this project, this skyscraper I'm using as a helpful analogy, need to hire their labor, but are not the labor themselves. They supervise, coordinate, assess, and serve as filters, if you will, as quality control. When something is not right, they make sure it's corrected, and make the difficult decisions to meet both standards and time constraints.
So, how do I tie this back to what's happening today? I hear you asking. Well, if we followed this example all the way through, then: I want you to imagine the world that will exist in the future, where all the labor is being conducted by machines. Not a single person in the construction zone, the danger zone, the hard helmet area, all robots, all day, all night, no sleep, no complaints, nothing.
This my friends is precisely what is happening in the world of software development. We are reaching a point where the labor, the guy making the blocks, is slowly (right now, but changing) being replaced by the ones who can design and coordinate the building of a project.
This reminds me of something my old coding teacher taught me when I was still in my teens, toiling away with PASCAL. "You need to learn to manage projects, more than learn to code in every language." Wise words back then, even wiser words right now.
The more I think about this the more scary and yet excited I get. I'm a people person, so I happen to find sadness in the fact that so many people will be displaced. But, I also love the idea of empowering the individual to be able to build the house of his dreams, so to speak.
How far do I think this will go?
Insanely far, I have to say. I see a future where prompting tricks and tips will be a thing of the past. What I mean is that today, you have to learn how to talk to AI so that it can help you code your idea. But, I think in the future you will be able to be terrible at this, and it still will know what you want and need.
This means, of course, that a grandma will be able to code herself an app to order her little robot to walk her dog and make coffee, and I'm not even making a joke here. There will be communities of coding grandmas in the future, and I'm willing to bet a testicle on this prediction.
At any rate...
I think I'm done typing. Hopefully all these words have loosened up something inside my head that will allow me to find the syntax error I keep on seeing in bold letters. The syntax error that will haunt me in my dreams tonight.
Back to my self-imposed grind...

En más de una ocasión me he preguntado por qué los desarrolladores casi no publican.
Quiero decir, el proceso de trabajar en software es tan complejo, tan lleno de pequeñas batallas, que ingenuamente pensé que tendrían montañas de cosas para compartir. Pero, creo que ya lo entiendo.
Como algunos saben, estoy volviendo al ruedo con Development Inc. Parece que una combinación de las herramientas de hoy, junto con el hecho de que fallo una y otra vez en convencer a alguien de desarrollar mis ideas, ha hecho que este sea el único camino para mí. Pensé, bueno, supongo que ahora escribiré sobre programación, y este blog podría convertirse por un tiempo en un blog de desarrollo, pero como pueden ver, eso apenas está pasando, al menos la parte de bloguear.
Justo ayer, estuve sentado frente a la computadora por casi diez horas seguidas. Tuve que parar porque el dolor en el cuello me recordó lo frágil que soy, pero ni siquiera terminé de encontrar el error que me propuse arreglar. Sí, estoy en uno de esos bloqueos que los desarrolladores odian tanto. Tengo un error de sintaxis en alguna parte del código, una declaración mal puesta, y no puedo encontrarla. Incluso le he pasado fragmentos enteros a ChatGPT pidiéndole que encuentre mi metida de pata, y ni siquiera él puede identificarla.
Dicho eso, sé cómo funciona esto. Estoy seguro de que será algo muy tonto, y me voy a reír cuando lo encuentre. Pero por ahora, al menos, voy a escribir un poco en este blog mío e intentar encontrar algo de paz con eso.
Cambiando de tema
Hablando de la app que estoy desarrollando ahora, creo que tengo un plan básico, más o menos así:
Con suerte, en unos días, máximo una semana, voy a lanzar una beta para Android y hacer “una gran publicación sobre ello”.
Esta versión incluirá, por supuesto, el repositorio público para que la gente pueda “inspeccionar” el código.
Ese post también servirá como invitación para que la gente me dé retroalimentación e ideas de mejora. Tal vez armamos una especie de lista de deseos.
Poco después de lanzar la beta para Android, le pediré a mi hermano que me ayude con la versión para iPhone. Esa es su especialidad, y como estoy usando React Native, ese port es factible.
Si todo va bien, y con la ayuda de @joseamenac (mi hermano), podríamos lanzar una versión funcional, no beta, para los Hiveanos que disfrutan de Snaps y quieren una experiencia rápida y cómoda.
¿Pero después de eso, qué sigue?
Bueno, estoy pensando que con una app funcional ya afuera, puedo empezar a recopilar retroalimentación por un tiempo. Compilar lo que estoy llamando listas de deseos, y tal vez abordar algunas cosas si están dentro de mis habilidades. Siguiendo el modelo de @ecoinstant para ser productivo: fruta al alcance primero. Simple, pero sabio.
Como pueden ver, no he tomado ninguna decisión sobre cómo compensarme por este trabajo, porque como dijo @acidyo: es muy temprano para pensar en eso. Pero sospecho que no será difícil tomar esa decisión cuando llegue el momento.
Para mí es obvio que hacer esto accesible para la mayor cantidad de personas está en el mejor interés de Hive. Imaginen, un clon portátil y sencillo de Twitter donde puedes ganar dinero sin estafar. Me parece una idea atractiva, y no solo para nosotros los Hiveanos. Podría convertirse en una herramienta de onboarding, una “carnada” como la estoy llamando.
Dicho todo eso, ya hay una lista de cosas que no voy a incluir en esta primera versión, pero que seguro llegarán en el futuro. En ningún orden particular:
Soporte de video: reproducir videos embebidos de YouTube y 3Speak
Incorporar Inleo Threads: son la comunidad más activa después de todo
Vista previa de posts: cuando alguien comparte enlaces, mostrar miniatura y hacerlos clickeables (abriría el navegador, pero igual)
Compartir: si queremos más ojos encima, esto es necesario. Que la gente pueda compartir fácilmente su Snap en cualquier plataforma Web2. Probablemente generando primero el enlace a Peakd Snaps.

Pensamientos sueltos para cerrar
Hace unos días hablaba con mi cuñado. Se mudó a Tailandia hace años y es uno de esos que siguieron el ahora meme consejo de “aprende a programar” para poder costearse la vida en el extranjero.
Como pueden imaginar, se graduó como programador, pero le cuesta conseguir trabajo como tal. Triste realidad. Trabajó un tiempo aplicando sus conocimientos, pero también fue despedido. Algo común, por lo que escucho, en el sector tech.
Mi hermano mayor también está buscando trabajo, y aunque esto que comparto es anecdótico, no creo que sea aislado. Es decir, estas nuevas herramientas, esta onda del vibe coding, no va a parar. De hecho, solo va a mejorar. Y eso significa que hay pocas razones por las cuales una empresa necesitaría equipos grandes para desarrollar incluso proyectos complejos. Eso deja a los obreros del código, los monos del código como les llamo con cariño, un poco fuera de lugar.
¿No te convence? Déjame darte una analogía.
Imagínate que hacer un gran software es como construir un rascacielos. Un edificio impresionante con lo último de lo último en cada rincón. Ahora imagina que el equipo que lo conceptualiza está compuesto por artistas, ingenieros y visionarios. Piensa ahora en cómo empieza la obra.
No hay arquitectos cargando arena ni mezclando cemento. Están ahí, claro, supervisando todo. Se aseguran de que todo se construya según el plan, pero aparte del casco, ni siquiera tienen que parecerse a los que están sudando bajo el sol.
Mi punto es que los líderes de este proyecto, este rascacielos que estoy usando como ejemplo útil, tienen que contratar la mano de obra, pero no son ellos mismos esa mano de obra. Supervisan, coordinan, evalúan, y funcionan como filtros, como control de calidad. Cuando algo no va bien, lo corrigen, y toman las decisiones difíciles para cumplir con los estándares y plazos.
¿Y cómo se conecta eso con lo que pasa hoy? Me escucho preguntarte. Bueno, si seguimos el ejemplo hasta el final, quiero que imagines un mundo donde toda la mano de obra la hacen máquinas. Ni una persona en la zona de construcción, ni en la zona de peligro, todo robots, todo el día, toda la noche, sin sueño, sin quejas, sin nada.
Eso, amigos míos, es justo lo que está pasando en el mundo del software. Estamos llegando a un punto en el que la mano de obra, el que hace los bloques, está siendo reemplazado lentamente (por ahora, pero va rápido) por los que pueden diseñar y coordinar la construcción del proyecto.
Esto me recuerda algo que me dijo mi viejo profe de programación cuando era adolescente y me rompía la cabeza con PASCAL. “Necesitas aprender a manejar proyectos, más que aprender a programar en todos los lenguajes”. Palabras sabias entonces, más sabias aún ahora.
Mientras más lo pienso, más miedo y emoción me da. Soy una persona de gente, así que me entristece que tanta gente vaya a quedar desplazada. Pero también me encanta la idea de empoderar al individuo para que pueda construir la casa de sus sueños, por así decirlo.
¿Qué tan lejos creo que va a llegar esto?
Muy, muy lejos, tengo que decir. Veo un futuro donde ni siquiera habrá que hacer prompts eficientes. Hoy tienes que aprender a hablar con la IA para que te ayude a programar tu idea. Pero creo que en el futuro podrás ser malísimo explicándote, y aun así la IA sabrá lo que quieres y necesitas.
Esto significa, por supuesto, que una abuela va a poder programarse una app para que su robot le saque al perro y le prepare el café. Y no estoy bromeando. Van a existir comunidades de abuelas programadoras en el futuro, y apuesto un testículo a esa predicción.
En fin...
Creo que terminé de escribir. Espero que todas estas palabras hayan aflojado algo dentro de mi cabeza que me permita encontrar ese error de sintaxis que sigo viendo en negritas. El error que me va a perseguir esta noche en mis sueños.
Vuelvo a mi tortura autoimpuesta...
