One of the things that I am so scared of trying is settling down in a new city, knowing that I was born and raised in the province. Aside from the changes in the surroundings and environment, I also feared dealing with people with a different culture to mine. But I guess I overcame that uneasy feeling when I finally hit the road to a new journey of my life. Here's the story of my smooth-sailing settle down from the province to a new city life.
When I got an opportunity to land on a job, I did not hesitate to grab and give it a try. It was a challenging journey for me, since the world became a very competitive place for people who are trying their luck to be employed in a decent job position. As for me, I was hired immediately in a one-day process only. It was very overwhelming, but the real challenge began when I already had to jump into a new city.
With my things packed and emotions heightened, I stood in a waiting station for a bus to get a ride. It was a one-hour travel from Zambales to Olongapo City, and another hour from Olongapo to Mabalacat City in Pampanga. Overall, it took me almost 3 hours of ride before I touched down in the land of the new city where I will be residing.

The hours of travel did not bore me at all because my partner accompanied me. He was with me when I was still applying to a job, up until when I needed to relocate already. But of course, I had to buy snacks for him to make sure he wouldn’t get hungry the whole ride. It was just a little treat of chips and soda.
The moment we landed in Mabalacat, we already saw the difference between the province and the city. The busy road, tall buildings, and the number of city malls around waved a warm welcome to us. Then, we had to ride a tricycle going to the room we rented. It was just a few minutes away from the bus terminal.

Since we only rented a room, there are no furniture included even a bed. We needed to go out and buy bed foam and pillows. My partner and I looked for the right shopping center where we could buy what we need, with the lowest price possible. And after a few minutes of walking around the city, we finally found the one. We chose the pillows and the foam bed in blue color.

Aside from the things we need for sleeping, there are also other pieces of stuff that we had to buy, like boxes for clothes, groceries, and hanging organizers to maximize the space of the room. While looking around the shopping center we stopped by, I was actually looking for particular things on my list – especially what I mentioned earlier. I was after organizers and boxes. Glad they have almost everything!
After hours of shopping haul, we realized it was already dark outside. We headed home while thinking of the next assignment we have to get done – arranging my stuffs and organizing them inside the room. Luckily, the location of the room we rented was just a walking distance going to the terminal, city mall, shopping centers, and fast food restaurants.

When we got home, my partner did his magic again. As usual, he always makes things convenient for me. He was the one who started arranging my stuffs, from the bed to my hanging organizers. Even with my groceries, he was the one who arranged them inside the boxes I bought. No, I am not a Disney Princess, but one thing is for sure – I got so lucky having my partner with me on this journey.

And here’s a cute setup for my spot! I know it’s a just a small space, since we’re still trying to adjust on a lot of things. Of course, the credit goes to my partner for making everything organized for me. And this will be my comfort zone after going home from an 8-hour shift at work. Cheers to settling down in the city. And so far, everything seems to be smooth-sailing on my end.
