School holidays are here, and the challenge of what to do with the kids begins. I say "challenge" because we don't always have the funds to pay for recreational activities. So, we have to find things that are low-cost or even free. That's how we stumbled upon a free anime exhibition—nothing spectacular, but good enough to keep us and the kids entertained for a while.
Vacaciones creativas - Aventura anime en familia ¡Gratis y divertido!
Ya las vacaciones escolares transcurren y comienza el desafío de que hacer junto a los hijos. Digo desafío porque no siempre disponemos de fondos para pagar por alguna actividad recreativa, así que nos toca encontrar aquellas que sean con el mínimo costo o nada. Fue así como dimos con una exposición gratuita sobre animes, nada espectacular pero lo suficientemente buena para distraernos un rato con los hijos.
Naturally, since it was free, a lot of people showed up, which meant we had to queue to get in. Luckily, we only waited about 30 minutes. My kids were so excited; my oldest is a big fan of some anime series, and my youngest daughter is too. I have my favorites, but I wouldn't say I was a super fanatic. I really only watched anime that used to air on open-signal TV many years ago.
Obviamente que al ser gratuito mucha gente iría, fue por eso que nos tocó hacer fila para poder ingresar, por suerte solo esperamos 30 minutos. Mis hijos estaban ansiosos, el mayor se hizo fan de algunos animes y mi hija menor también, yo tengo mis favoritos pero no puedo decir que fui súper fanático, realmente ví animes gracias a los que se transmitían en la televisión de señal abierta hace varios años.
More than just an exhibition, it's a place to evoke memories and take photos—as some say, an "Instagrammable" spot. It's a hall of about 120 square meters with four areas for manga and anime-related activities, along with several figures of the most famous animated characters from the world of Japanese cartoons. These included: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, one of today's popular anime; Naruto from a few years back; and even older classics like Dragon Ball, Candy Candy, Heidi Girl of the Alps, Mazinger Z, Sailor Moon, and Speed Racer.
Más que una exposición, es un sitio para evocar recuerdos y tomar fotos, como dicen algunos, un lugar intagrameable. Es un salon de unos 120 mt2 donde dispusieron 4 espacio para actividades relacionadas con el manga y anime, junto a varias figuras de los personajes animados más famosos de este mundo de caricaturas japonesas, entre las que se encuentran: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba que es uno de los animes de la actualidad, también Naruto de hace algunos años atrás, pero también de los mas viejos como Dragon Ball, Candy Candy, Heidi Girl of the Alps, Mazinger Z, Sailor Moon y Meteoro o Speed Racer.
Among the activity spaces, there was manga figure coloring for the little ones, a "create your own anime character" station using templates for older kids, a Just Dance area, anime karaoke, video games related to many of these stories, and even a spot where you could bring a t-shirt and screen-print an image of your favorite anime character.
Entre los espacios con actividades se encontraban colorear figuras de manga para los más pequeños, para los mas grandes crear tu propio personaje de anime utilizando plantillas, un espacio para bailar con Just Dance, karaoke de las canciones de los animes, videojuegos relacionados con muchas de estas historias e incluso un espacio donde podías llevar una franelas y con serigrafia estampar una imagen de tu personaje favorito de algún anime.
My kids absolutely loved it, but two things really excited me: a large Mazinger Z figure because it reminded me of when I had that toy robot at age five. The second, and my favorite, was the mural honoring the life of Akira Toriyama, titled: "The Sensei's Canvas." If you don't know who he is, he's the creator of the global phenomenon Dragon Ball, which brought anime and manga into the spotlight for many. Almost everyone knows this anime, maybe not by name, but I'm sure everyone has heard of its main character, Goku, at some point.
Mis hijos disfrutaron muchísimo, pero a mi me emocionaron dos cosas: una figura de gran tamaño de Mazinger Z porque me recordó cuando a los 5 años tuve este robot de juguete. La segunda y mi favorito fue el mural que honra la vida de Akira Toriyama, titulado: El Lienzo del Sensei. Si no sabes quien es, es el creador del fenómeno mundial de Dragon Ball, que puso en la mira de muchos el anime y el manga, casi todos conocen este anime quizás no por su nombre pero de seguro todos han escuchado alguna vez de Goku su personaje principal.
It was a different and very fun day. I loved seeing so many people excited, talking about their preferences and favorite anime. But I especially enjoyed seeing parents, like me, accompanying their kids, recalling our childhoods and the cartoons we watched on TV without knowing back then that they were anime. This activity was new to us, and we were enchanted, eager to return to this museum's spaces and visit many more of its exhibitions.
Fue un dia diferente y muy divertido, me encantó ver tanta gente emocionada hablando de sus preferencias, cuáles son sus animes favoritos, pero me gusto muchos más ver a padres acompañar a sus hijos como yo, recordando nuestra niñez y las caricaturas que veíamos en la tv sin saber en aquel entonces que eran animes. Esta actividad fue nueva para nosotros y quedamos encantados con ganas de volver a los espacios de este museo y visitar muchas más de sus exposiciones.
