Hoy quiero contarles una experiencia que tuve luego de visitar una casa abandonada, fue una sensación agridulce. Lo que sucede es que esta casa en cuestión pertenece a una gran amiga de mi tía, la cuál actualmente está viviendo en Panamá y hace muchos años que dejó esta casa, al inicio ella le pidió a una persona que la cuidara por ella, pero luego, por alguna razón esa persona simplemente se fue y dejó esa casa a cargo de otra persona, la cual mientras vivió allí hizo algunos destrozos hasta que se fue, del resto se encargó el tiempo y el abandono, hasta que finalmente la dueña de la casa decidió venderla y le pidió el favor a mi tía de que se encargara de eso, de ir a ver las condiciones actuales de la vivienda, evaluar los daños e incluso que se quedara con lo que a ella pudiera servirle o que le gustara. De esta manera mi tía nos pidió el favor a algunos familiares para que fuésemos a echarle una mano con eso, y la verdad es que tuve una sensación agridulce.
Today I want to tell you about an experience I had after visiting an abandoned house, it was a bittersweet feeling. What happens is that this house in question belongs to a great friend of my aunt, which is currently living in Panama and many years ago she left this house, at the beginning she asked a person to take care of it for her, but then, for some reason that person just left and left that house in charge of another person, The rest was taken care of by time and neglect, until finally the owner of the house decided to sell it and asked my aunt to take care of it, to go and see the current conditions of the house, to evaluate the damages and even to keep what she could use or what she liked. So my aunt asked some of our family members to help her with that, and the truth is that I had a bittersweet feeling.
Por una parte yo estaba feliz porque encontré algunos libros que me gustaron y que mi tía me dijo que podía quedarme con ellos, pero por otra parte me dio tristeza ver como el patrimonio de una familia que probablemente tomó años de ahorro de pronto se encontraba tan deteriorado a causa de personas que no valoraron la amistad y la confianza que depositaron en ellos y simplemente dejaron que la casa se fuese deteriorando, se sirvieron de ella y luego simplemente la abandonaron.
On the one hand I was happy because I found some books that I liked and that my aunt told me I could keep, but on the other hand I was sad to see how a family's heritage that probably took years of saving was suddenly so deteriorated because of people who did not value the friendship and trust they placed in them and simply let the house deteriorate, used it and then just abandoned it.
Miren el estado de la cocina, hay mucho trabajo por hacer allí, el techo es de láminas de acerolit y nunca fue reemplazado, ni siquiera le hicieron mantenimiento, así que se ha agrietado en varios puntos de la casa, dejando entrar el agua cuando llueve, por lo tanto la casa tiene mucha humedad y polvo también.
Look at the state of the kitchen, there is a lot of work to be done there, the roof is made of acerolit sheets and was never replaced, not even maintained, so it has cracked in several points of the house, letting water in when it rains, so the house has a lot of humidity and dust as well.
No había algún punto de la casa que no requiriera una reparación, incluso la cerradura de la puerta de la calle dio muchos problemas para abrir, nos costó mucho acceder a la casa por causa de eso, y una vez que pudimos abrirla no quería cerrar, esa cerradura estaba vieja y oxidada, así que mi tía compró una nueva y mi otro tío estuvo largo rato lidiando con la vieja cerradura para sacarla y reemplazarla por la nueva, y aún así dio problemas, así que mi tía pensó en contratar a un cerrajero para que dejara esa puerta en buenas condiciones.
There wasn't a spot in the house that didn't need a repair, even the lock on the street door gave a lot of trouble to open, we had a hard time accessing the house because of that, and once we were able to open it it didn't want to close, that lock was old and rusty, so my aunt bought a new one and my other uncle spent a long time dealing with the old lock to take it out and replace it with the new one, and it still gave trouble, so my aunt thought of hiring a locksmith to get that door in good condition.

Nosotras nos encargamos de limpiar y de ir recolectando todo. La amiga de mi tía le dijo que podía quedarse con lo que quisiera (ya que la casa sería vendida y debía sacar de allí las antiguas pertenencias), pero le pidió especialmente que le guardara algunas fotos familiares y diplomas que ella recogería cuando viniera al país. Esta actividad nos costó un poco porque no había luz eléctrica en la casa y tuvimos que alumbrarnos con bombillos de luz led portátiles, pero cuando estos fueron perdiendo la carga la tarea se hizo un poco más complicada y tuvimos que parar por ese día.
We were in charge of cleaning and collecting everything. My aunt's friend told her that she could keep whatever she wanted (since the house would be sold and she had to take out the old belongings), but she asked her especially to keep some family photos and diplomas that she would collect when she came to the country. This activity was a little bit hard for us because there was no electricity in the house and we had to light ourselves with portable led light bulbs, but when these were losing their charge the task became a little more complicated and we had to stop for the day.

Este es el único poema épico griego que me gusta porque narra las aventuras de Jasón y los Argonautas en su búsqueda del Vellocino de Oro
Among the belongings that my aunt's friend no longer wanted were some books that I, as an assiduous reader that I am, gladly rescued 😍 Chistine, by Stephen King (one of my favorite horror/mystery writers) Casas Muertas by Miguel Otero Silva, a biography of the great Francisco de Miranda (hero and precursor of the independence of Venezuela) and even Argonáuticas, by Apolonio Rodas. This is the only Greek epic poem that I like because it narrates the adventures of Jason and the Argonauts in their quest for the Golden Fleece.
Al final de cuentas la amiga de mi tía logró vender la casa sin la necesidad de hacer grandes arreglos porque el comprador dijo que se encargaría de todo, así que me alegra que ese lugar tenga una segunda oportunidad. Muchas gracias por leerme, amigos 😉 nos vemos en otra oportunidad.
At the end of the day my aunt's friend managed to sell the house without the need for major repairs because the buyer said he would take care of everything, so I'm glad that place got a second chance. Thanks so much for reading me, folks 😉 see you another time.
