Primeras semanas de Pasantías Escolares🤓👨🏻‍🏫-First Weeks of School Internships🤓👨🏻‍🏫

This time I bring you a little summary of what has been my first two weeks of school psychology internships. To put them quickly in context, as I said before I am studying Psychology and I am already in the last semesters where I see internships and one of them is School Psychology, I do them just in my own Dean's Office with 1st semester students of my own career, along with my amazing internship partner @kiutvariedades who throughout the semester we will be working with this population, although in some different sections, but this I will tell you in more detail in the post.

Para darles un poco más de detalle sobre el tema, las pasantías de psicología escolar consisten en emplear durante un semestre los conocimientos teóricos-prácticos de lo que hace un Psicólogo Escolar en una institución, antes de iniciar tenemos para escoger a la población entre niños, adolescentes o universitarios, eso implica estar en colegios, liceos o universidades. Desde mi punto de vista quería trabajar con una población nueva que también es necesitada de la asesoría escolar como son los estudiantes del 1er semestres que siempre tienen dificultades y necesidades por el nuevo ámbito académico, así que decidí escoger esa población y que mejor lugar que mi propio Decanato.

To give you a little more detail on the subject, school psychology internships consist of using during a semester the theoretical-practical knowledge of what a School Psychologist does in an institution, before starting we have to choose the population between children, adolescents or university students, that implies being in schools, high schools or universities. From my point of view I wanted to work with a new population that is also in need of school counseling such as 1st semester students who always have difficulties and needs due to the new academic environment, so I decided to choose that population and what better place than my own Dean's Office.

El primer día de pasantías fue de reunirnos con la tutora institucional quien nos puso al tanto de la situación en el decanato con respecto a los estudiantes y si había casos particulares que atender, lo cual resultaron muy escasos debido a que no había una evaluación previa de la población por lo mismo de que eran nuevo ingreso y apenas estaban iniciando semestre, pero si había indicios de posibles casos pero ya eso debíamos de averiguarlo nosotros. Hicimos lo que yo llamo la “repartición de bienes” jajaj que consiste en que se nos dio a cada uno la población que va abordar, a mí se me asignaron la sección 1 y 2 de psicología que son nada más y nada menos que 60 estudiantes en total. Ya al culminar la reunión revise los horarios y fui directamente a las clases de las secciones que me correspondían para hablar con la profesora de la respectiva materia, presentarme como pasante hacia los estudiantes y realizar mis respectivas observaciones en las dos clases que estuve.

The first day of the internship was to meet with the institutional tutor who informed us about the situation in the dean's office regarding the students and if there were particular cases to deal with, which were very few because there was no previous evaluation of the population due to the fact that they were new students and were just starting the semester, but there were indications of possible cases but we had to find out for ourselves. We did what I call the "distribution of goods" hahahah which consists of giving each one of us the population to be addressed, I was assigned section 1 and 2 of psychology which are nothing more and nothing less than 60 students in total. At the end of the meeting I reviewed the schedules and went directly to the classes of the sections that corresponded to me to talk to the teacher of the respective subject, introduce myself as an intern to the students and make my respective observations in the two classes I was in.

I could say that that Monday was my whole week depending on my internship, yes and no, because it turns out that the schedule of my two sections have classes on Mondays and Tuesdays, but on Tuesdays I have classes of Clinical Psychology I so I can only on Mondays, but at the same time I must fulfill at least 9 hours per week of internships, I must necessarily go a second day of internships to meet schedule, and that day is precisely on Wednesdays, where I serve as a companion to @kiutvariedades and at the same time I meet schedule hahaha.

Ya en la segunda semana en donde debería empezar finiquitar mi fase de diagnóstico como en los grupos y en los casos grupales, si fue más movida que la anterior, empezando que el lunes sencillamente fui a cumplir horario jajaja resulta que las dos secciones que iba a observar y a evaluar en la materia de Filosofía no fueron a clases porque no tenían, pero yo me entere fue como a las 9:30am con bastantes horas de sueño pérdidas desde las 5:30am jajaja. Pero bueno como diría mi profesora de Psicología Escolar II del semestre pasado, que en prácticas y en el ejercicio de la psicología hay que adaptarse a las situaciones y ser flexibles como el bambú sin romperse, y eso hice, me puse en contacto con los delegados de la sección para confirmar que tuviesen clases el día siguiente, y yo lo que tendría que hacer es faltar a Psicología Clínica, que al final no fue así porque a mi profesora se le presento un problema familiar y suspendió la clases de ese día.

Already in the second week where I should begin to finalize my diagnostic phase as in the groups and group cases, it was more hectic than the previous one, starting on Monday I simply went to meet schedule hahaha it turns out that the two sections that I was going to observe and evaluate in the subject of Philosophy did not go to class because they did not have, but I found out it was at 9:30am with many hours of sleep lost since 5:30am hahaha. But well, as my professor of School Psychology II from last semester would say, that in practices and in the practice of psychology you have to adapt to situations and be flexible as bamboo without breaking, and that's what I did, I contacted the delegates of the section to confirm that they had classes the next day, and what I would have to do is miss Clinical Psychology, which in the end was not the case because my teacher had a family problem and suspended the classes that day.

Llegado el día martes, justamente mis dos secciones tenían la materia de estadística descriptiva, que si no lo saben, es una de las materias que más pesadillas y dolores de cabeza les da a cada estudiante de psicología en promedio jajaj, y bueno era el turno de estos estudiantes nuevo ingreso de pasar por esa experiencia ya que tenían evaluación ese día. Por suerte la profesora que da la materia es la misma que me dio la materia a mi hace 5 años cuando la presente, así que se imaginaran la nostalgia de volvernos a ver pero desde roles diferentes y ella encantadísima que estuviese allí para evaluar y ayudar a los muchachos en sus necesidades y dificultades de aprendizaje, me dio prácticamente la información que necesitaba de algunos casos de la primera sección de quienes yo sospechaba, tanta fue su emoción que no hubo necesidad de yo presentarme jaja. Al ser el turno de la segunda sección, todo parecía marchar con suma normalidad, aparentaban ser una sección muy tranquila, atentos y aplicados, incluso cuando interrogo a la profesora me dice que los estudiantes de esa sección tienen un rendimiento muy alto, pero para mí no todo lo que brilla es oro ni todo es lo que parece siempre, hay un chico que me levanta la ligera sospecha de algo por algunas cosas que pude observar y además de la integración grupal a nivel general.

Arrived on Tuesday, just my two sections had the subject of descriptive statistics, which if you do not know, is one of the subjects that gives more nightmares and headaches to every psychology student on average hahahah, and well it was the turn of these new students to go through that experience since they had evaluation that day. Luckily the teacher who teaches the subject is the same one who gave me the subject 5 years ago when I presented it, so you can imagine the nostalgia of seeing each other again but from different roles and she was delighted to be there to evaluate and help the kids in their needs and learning difficulties, she gave me practically the information I needed of some cases of the first section of whom I suspected, so much was her excitement that there was no need for me to introduce myself haha. When it was the turn of the second section, everything seemed to go very normally, they appeared to be a very quiet section, attentive and applied, even when I questioned the teacher she told me that the students in that section have a very high performance, but for me not everything that glitters is gold or everything is what it always seems, there is a boy who raises a slight suspicion of something for some things I could observe and in addition to the group integration in general.

Para acabar ya mi semana, resulta que el día de ayer saliendo de clases de Neuropsicología me encuentro con mi tutora de pasantías, que en resumidas cuentas me dice que tengo tarea para penúltima semana de Marzo jajaj que consiste en entregar el informe final del diagnóstico de la institución junto con la planificación de las actividades que llevaremos a cabo, más un día de asesoría para las correcciones de los informes, pero bueno nada del otro mundo aunque si me encuentro nervioso, lo mejor será aprovechar el mayor tiempo posible y estas semana para finiquitar lo que falte para el informe.

To finish my week, it turns out that yesterday coming out of Neuropsychology classes I met with my internship tutor, who in short tells me that I have homework for the penultimate week of March hahahah which is to deliver the final report of the diagnosis of the institution along with the planning of the activities to be carried out, plus a day of counseling for the corrections of the reports, but well no big deal but if I find myself nervous, it will be best to take advantage of as much time as possible and these week to finalize what is missing for the report.
