Scientists of Temple University discovered a mysterious lake under the sea that kills all creatures who enter it. The lake, dubbed as “Jacuzzi of Despair,” was found at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico. The horror lake is about 100 feet in circumference and about 12 feet deep. It is located on the ocean floor nearly 3,300 feet below the surface.
This lake is made of heavy water rich with toxins like methane and hydrogen sulfide. It contains five times more salt than the surrounding seawater. The lake is a reservoir of dead bodies of fish and other creatures that entered it lured by its warm temperature (about 65 degrees Fahrenheit) and never come back alive.
Jacuzzi of Despair is actually connected to a brine river which flows over the seafloor.
“It was one of the most amazing things in the deep sea. You go down into the bottom of the ocean and you are looking at a lake or a river flowing. It feels like you are not on this world,” Erik Cordes, associate professor of biology at Temple University said in a statement.
