Goals, hopes, and aspirations are the key things that are pushing me forward toward my ambition. Hello everyone, and welcome to my journal. Since this is not my diary where I will write my daily activities but my journal, I will be sharing from the heart.
I am a young lady who is just 23 years old, and I know I have a long year ahead to accomplish my heart's desires. I finished from Akure College of Health, studying health science, but this doesn't qualify me to be a medical doctor or nurse in my country. I have had the desire to help as a medical practitioner but then it goes beyond hope, it has to do with putting in the effort.
During Covid-19, I remembered working as a volunteer to help people who were in Isolation centers. I did this with great joy and that pushed me to get a degree in medicine and Surgery as well as practicing it. Prior to Covid, I had wanted to be a medical doctor but Covid increased the fire in me. Currently, I am working as an auxiliary desk officer at a general hospital as an Intern. I decided to do this because after my graduation from the College of Health, I had to write numerous exams to gain admission into the University to study medicine but then, I needed to get a glimpse, and experience of what it would look like being a medical doctor and I haven't been more hungered to be one than now.
To become this, I need to get a JAMB/UTME score of above 280, this is not a problem for me because in my previous exam where I got admission into the College of Health, I made 300, and I was certain I didn't do well to my best in that exam. I wanted to take the exam this year but the government brought out a new mode of registration when I was in college for those participating in the exam which has to do with using our National Identity card number as part of the registration requirement, and although I have it, I realized that the person who inserted my name in the registration misplaced my name, putting my middle name as my first name, and my Surname as my middle name. In my country, you can't sue anyone anyhow, else I would have filed a lawsuit because this mistake will affect an entire year of my life. I have gone back to the registration centers to correct the wrongs, but then I will have to wait for next year before I can write JAMB/UTME again because the correction will be effected when the registration has closed.
So I will be writing JAMB/UTME next year but then there is more to getting into the University after making 280 in JAMB. I will have to go for a Post UTME exam, or what is now referred to as Screening. At this point, depending on the university's mode of scoring, the JAMB/UTME score can be divided by 5, and the applicant has to get a total of 80 points and above to get to the interview stage in schools like the University of Ibadan. This means, if I score 300 points in my JAMB/UTME exam as I did in my previous one, then I already have 60 points already and need to score above 20 in the Screening/Post UTME.
After the screening, I will have to come for an interview stage. It is funny that this same procedure is used in Nursing Schools like the School of Nursing at the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital (SON LUTH). After the screening, the interview stage is the next and if I can get through this, I will be in the school as a First-year medical student. While there are going to be more hurdles like unpredicted school strikes and internal strikes, my current hurdle is how I will get into school.
