Hi everyone, I hope you're having a great summer with lots of good beers in good company!
My eldest son recently turned 18 (that's worth an extra vote, isn't it?). His friends had a cool idea: they brought 18 different beers to the party to try! I was allowed to try some of them and will report on them here.
Since I'm an avid IPA fan, I'd like to start with a Dutch IPA. (Why are IPA beer cans always so colorful?)
So here's the Kaapse Karel Session IPA. “Karel” is probably meant to commemorate Karl Marx, as there's a photo of him on the can.
Look and feel: Well, it came in a can, which is not ideal, but you don't look a gift horse in the mouth, right?
As the name “pale” suggests, the color is very light, which gives it a fresh look and feel, and it's also a little cloudy, which I personally prefer.
Unfortunately, the IPA effect, i.e., the fruity (in this case, “tropical”) flavor, was not very noticeable; it tasted like a fresh pilsner.
My conclusion is therefore: an okayish beer for the summer, but an IPA should be able to do more!
Ah - and let's not forget the one thing that makes every drink great for me: Icecubes. Of course I pit some in ;-)
Cheers!
