Greetings to everybody, I'm back on the beer adventures after a long week of duties. This time I'm back on the amazing world of craft beers, and of course I'm having some of the 7 VIDAS cask beers, one of the best beers on the Peruvian market.
Un saludo a la comunidad, aquí me encuentro de vuelta en las aventuras cerveceras luego de una semana de ocupaciones laborales. Esta vez vuelvo a la cerveza artesanal, y que mejor que de la mano de la selección de cervezas de barrica de 7 VIDAS, sin duda una de las mejores en el mercado Peruano.
First beer is The Promise. Wheat wine. The base style is that of an american wheat ale, and from then it becomes a wheat wine that's aged in casks of bourbon for about fifteen months. The color is a gorgeous light copper due to its cask time, the foam is not very persistent because of the high alcohol percentage, 13.8. The aroma is fruity, a very light plum, and the flavor sensation is very intense for the aging process and the high alcohol. It is a well balanced beer, definitely a success on it's style.
La primera chelita es The Promise. Wheat Wine. Su estilo base es de una american wheat ale, y de allí resulta la wheat wine que es añejada en barricas de bourbon por quince meses. De un color cobrizo claro por la barrica, no tiene mucha retención de espuma por el gran porcentaje alcohólico, 13.8 grados. En nariz se percibe sensación frutal, ciruela muy suave, en boca la sensación es más intensa por la barrica y su alto grado alcohólico. Es muy equilibrada, sin duda un buen logro para el estilo.
Our second beer is Blackout Pastry Imperial Stout. It's an American style, amercicans upgraded the Imperial stouts, beers that by tradition were made for russian tsars. On this case, Pastries are black beers, very alcoholic, with a thicker body and candies added to the mix in astonishing amounts. In Peru it's not that successfully accomplished because they do not add said amounts of candies, since that would elevate exponentially the cost of the beer because those american sweets are imported. It is an interesting beer nonetheless, with intense vanilla and caramel notes, but not very balanced. The sweet note is so invasive that doesn't go well with the body nor the alcohol. It could get better by saving to see how it evolves in bottle. It's been aged for 23 months in american bourbon cask and then conditioned with coconut and vanilla. It's 15.8 percent of alcohol with very low foam because of it. Very distonctive notes of vanilla and coconut can be perceived by nose, even getting to the point of toning down the liquor. Flavor wise you can definitely feel the vanilla, chocolate, toffee... With a clear predominance of coconut and vanilla, notes that should be a bit more subtle to achieve a good balance.
La segunda es Blackout Pastry Imperial Stout. Es un estilo americano, quienes mejoraron las imperial stout que por historia se hacían para los zares rusos. En este caso las Pastry son cervezas negras, muy alcohólicas, con bastante cuerpo y se les añade golosinas en grandes cantidades. En Perú no se ha logrado bien precisamente porque no añaden esas cantidades obscenas de dulce, pues encarecería demasiado la cerveza pues dichas golosinas americanas son producto de importación. Es una cerveza interesante, con intensa nota a vainilla y caramelo pero no es tan equilibrada. La nota dulce es tan intensa e invasiva que no acompaña bien al cuerpo y al alcohol que tiene. Podría mejorar con guarda a ver cómo evoluciona en botella. Ha sido añejada 23 meses en barrica de bourbon americano y condicionada con vainilla y coco. Tiene 15.8 grados de alcohol, con poca retención de espuma debido a esto. En nariz tiene muy marcadas la sensación a vainilla y coco, incluso llegando a opacar la nota licorosa. En boca se siente vainilla, chocolate, toffee... pero sobresale la vainilla y coco, notas que deberían ser más sutiles para que exista ese balance.
Third on the list is Oude Gatteuze. A very special beer, very well accomplished keeping in mind that Peru can't make belgian styles... belgians have an eternity doing their thing. This one is a lambic aged in cask, its interesting because it is a blend of three styles with an aging period of almost three years. It is a sour beer with a beautiful golden color, with a 6.2 alcohol percentage and it's not very intense yet it hold an unusual acidic sensation. The foam has a nice retention, and the fruit and umami notes are perceived by nose. The flavor has mixed notes reminiscent of a well fermented fruit, which makes it a very pleasant experience.
Tercera en la lista es la Oude Gatteuze. Es una cerveza especial, muy bien lograda pese a que Perú no puede hacer estilos belgas... los belgas llevan una eternidad en lo suyo. Es una lambic añejada en barrica, es interesante porque es un blend de tres cervezas en un periodo de añejamiento de casi tres años. Son cervezas ácidas. En color es más dorada 6.2 grados de alcohol, no es tan intensa pero tiene una sensación de acidez inusual. Buena retención de espuma, en nariz tiene notas de umami, ésteres frutales y en boca se siente el tema frutal, como una fruta fermentada y es bien agradable.
