Something a little different this week for #beersaturday as I'm having a beer with my mate @scubahead who got back in the UK on Wednesday from the Philippines and is now in quarantine on a narrowboat in the West Midlands and I'm in South Devon and it just occurred to me he should be flying a Quebec or YellowJack.
Anyway as he's back we thought we would have a beer together. So this Saturday's 4 Thursty tipple is St Austell Brewery's Proper Job. Brewed over the border in Cornwall it's a strong traditional IPA at 5.5% ABV in bottled form and 4.5% ABV if you get it from a cask from a pub, I wish, maybe in a couple of months. In addition to 500ml bottles and casks in pubs St Austell ales also so sell 5-liter mini-kegs on line so good for parties in the summer if your mates like a good pint or two of Proper Job
It pours really well and has a nice pine resin nose out of the bottle, the color is a great dark clear golden hue it's made with a good mix of Willamette, Cascade, Chinook hops, and Maris Otter Mault so the taste is rich and very hoppy.
One thing I did notice on the St Austell Brewery webpage for Proper Job is that the cask beer is clarified using isinglass finings are derived from fish collagen, cask ales are not suitable for vegans or vegetarians So good if your that way inclined be warned. The good news is though that the bottled beer doesn't so you can fill your boots with the bottled stuff.
For info, this also applies to Tribute another St Austell ales well-known beers.
Well, Hivers one thing leads to another well another 2 if I'm honest another 500ml of Theakstons Black sheep a 4.4% ABV Amber Ale and lastly a bottle of Skinners Lushingtons 4.2 ABV Sunshine IPA but more about them another day but both very tasty and help make the time fly.
At one stage @scubahead better half joined us @milli1996 but not for too long I guess too many blokes talking beer, but it was good to see her again.
Well, Hivers The plan is to make this a regular thing, while they are in quarantine and lockdown continues, so I guess I'd better get more beers in for next week.
