Whenever I'm on holiday I scan the local supermarkets for local or regional beers I haven't had before. And as I am in France at the moment for a three week holiday, I decided to try out some French beers.
And you might think that the France only make wine, but they also make beers!
Meteor IPA
Today I spotted the Meteor IPA in the supermarket. And because IPA's are one of my favorite beers, I decided to buy it.
Meteor is made by the brewery with the same name. The brewerey is based in Hochfelden which sounds more German than French, but that is because it is near the German border near Strassbourg.
The brasserie was originally founded in 1640 by Jean Klein, which makes the brewery 385 years old! I didn't expect that when I saw the trendy label.
The beer looks golden and hazy and has a thin layer of foam that disappeared quite quickly. According to their website the beer is very fruity thanks to the SIMCOE hop and a new alsatian “top secret” experimental hop; sounds interesting.
The smell is indeed hoppy and I can taste some exotic fruits too.
The label on the bottle has an indicator of the taste. I've seen it before, but not with this many options. They show:
- Cereals
- Hops
- Fruitiness
- Roasted
- Caramel
- Smoked
- Spices
- Flowers
- Herbaceous
- Alcohol
And of course, another check I often do is whether it has a cool bottle cap. And it does; the bottle cap has... not surprisingly, a meteor on it.
Quite a cool one for my bottle cap collection.
It was a really nice beer. Hoppy and fruity and not to much carbon dioxide. I would rate it 4 out of 5. Cheers!
