I know, I know, the joke was stale 18 months ago, but I decided it was time to try a Mexican brew. I wanted to give it the best opportunity shy of the tap, so I bought a can instead of a bottle. Clear glass quickly results in a skunked beer. No need for a lime to cover up that taste! Then again, I may be missing part of the appeal somehow.
Corona Extra is owned by Anheuser-Busch Inbev, the same mega-corporation which owns Budweiser. Yuck! But starting almost a century ago, it was a proper Pilsner-style brew. This doesn't compare to the real deal from Germany, but I can see why people flocked to it when it hit the US. It's better than a Bud Light.
That said, I don't see myself buying this again. I don't drink a lot, so when I do, I'd prefer to indulge in something that is actually good, not just better than Budweiser. While IPAs dominate the craft beer scene, there are plenty of other styles available, too. Stouts, lagers, hefes, and more can be had at far higher quality and quite tolerable prices. This is passable, but nowadays, I'll pass. Why settle?
