Hey, #beersaturday friends, how are you? It’s rare, but sometimes it’s time for a beer post by me! Yup, it is today and I am enjoying anothet good Belgian sour beer.
This week I chose another fruited one, this time with sour cherries. I had a cherried belgian beer recently, not sour cherry, so it is a bit different now. I haven’t had a Rodenbach Alexander so far and it seems to me that it is a bit less popular than the Duchesse de Bourgogne. Anyway, let’s see what is in the bottle.
My little japanese friend will help me to cooe with the cap. Yeehaw!
When I opened it, I definitely felt the sour cherry aroma. Now I start to ask myself if you put cherries in a sour beer, do they become sour cherries? I think the result will be similar 🤣
The color is as expected - ruby, dark reddish and the beer is clear. There are no dregs floating inside, which is good. The head was quite big as I poured the beer firstly, but it dissolved relatively quick, quite expected for the essence of the brett sour beers. Aroma is quite intensive, but there is not very strong brett scent. For comparison, the Duchesse had an extremely strong brett character, which was a bit overpowering the fruitful taste.
The mouthfeel corresponds with the aroma perfectly. Cherries in front, pretty sour, but too little brett. A bit disappointing for my exquisite palate. On the other side, the Duchesse was a bit too strong, so maybe if I mix both of them I will receive an excellent result.
But don’t get me wrong, the beer is good, and as it is with other brett fermented beers, they are not ideal for everyday consumption. Maybe if you have one or two diring the week you will be more than happy. I am sure that there will be people that will think differently and they wouldn’t mind a beer or two like these daily, but they will not be the majority.
So, thats for today. Hope that you enjoyed my short writing here and the vivid photos. Next week I will beg for an IPA, ot maybe a NEIPA! We will see what will be my choice. See you soon and have a nice weekend!
Cheers and bye!
