Hello Hivians and all you beer lovers.
Two of my favourite things are Beer and Football, more specifically Beer and Rangers lol.
No word of a lie I love it when the two mix. Football and Beer, it's back baby on #beersaturday.
The Beer
William McEwan's Export
Back when I was boy growing up in Scotland you pretty much had Tennent's lager and McEwan's Export. The two breweries, well they both had a lager a dark beer.
But generally those were the two.
I have drunk countless pints and cans and even bottles of McEwan's Export over the years.
The Scottish Ale
McEwan's Export is classified as a Scottish Ale, with a description as a premium, full-bodied, and sweet ale with a satisfying roast flavour. It's known for its russet brown colour. Historically, it's also referred to as a "heavy" by locals
McEwans Export it really was brewed to Export!
It used to be a Scottish beer, or more accurately it used to be an Edinburgh beer. It was started at the William McEwan's Fountain Brewery in Edinburgh in 1856.
By the 1860s, McEwan's was already exporting its beers, which is how "Export" got its name.
It was originally brewed specifically for the colonial export trade to places like India, the Caribbean, and even as far as Australia and New Zealand.
How fluffing cool was that, the commonwealth got it, but the common Scot who brewed it couldn't drink it lol!
To cut a long story short, it is no longer Scottish in my eyes!
McEwan's Export stopped being brewed at its original Fountain Brewery in Edinburgh when it closed down in June 2005. It then transferred to the Caledonian brewery in Edinburgh.
However the canning and bottling of McEwan's Export moved to Carlsberg Marston's Brewing Company in Bedford, England.
So it is no longer brewed in Edinburgh nor even Scotland.
I tell you what, it used to taste much better than it does now.
Multinationals killing the game!
A bit like football, multinationals just keep taking over things and the originality dies out.
The mighty Rangers
We have been taken over by the trading arm of the San Francisco 49ers... So let's see what happens.
We have signed a couple of players, as you can see from the team photo before the game on Tuesday.
See anything funny?
Champions League qualifier
We won 2-0 at home, the typical game of two halves.
We were shite in the first half. Our goalie was immense and kept us in the game.
Then our wee 18 year old home grown player scored and we took over.
Now we have the return leg on Wednesday I believer...
It is in Greece.
Do you know of a decent Greek beer to drink while watching the game?
Posting about a beer on a Saturday on the Beer Community ....
Cheers to local beers and Happy Summer everyone
It's a whole bunch of fun, so check out The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 421 from the one and only @detlev.
