Hello Hivians and all you beer lovers.
Saturday on Hive of course means it's time to write about the good old amber nectar or Beer and today's no exception for me.
Today we are having a local beer, yes one from Scotland 🏴
What have Highland cows got to do with beer?
Answer ...Read on and find out!
Loch Lomond Brewery..
... was founded in 2011 by Euan and Fiona MacEachern. It has grown from a mom and pop kitchen job in Luss to a state-of-the-art 35-hectolitre facility near Dumbarton on the west coast of Scotland.
Along the way the brewery has picked up a shitload of awards.
The brewery's ethos is rooted in the natural beauty of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, which they say inspires their creative and varied beer styles. You can see some of those views on their website, I have screenshotted one for you above.
They do produce a wide array of ales, from traditional Scottish styles to stouts and lagers. But it's their hazy IPAs have gained rave reviews and we are testing drinking one today!.
Hello Wild Drover
I picked these up in our local Lidl and I think they were £1.89 a can.
Is that not a fluffing cute can or what!?!
A colourful illustration of a Highland cow adorns the can, but why?
Well let's answer in reverse... so a "drover" is someone who drives cattle. The highland cow is often depicted with a somewhat wild and shaggy appearance ( abit like me!), hence the "Wild Drover" name.
The nose of the highland cow and St Andrew's flag
The patron saint of Scotland is Andrew and the flag below is our national flag.
Some people think it is based on the nose of the Highland Cow... What do you think?
The Hazy IPA
I think it is my favourite type of IPA.
Mrs T asked why is it called a hazy IPA... So I poured it for her.
It's fluffing hazy!!!
A hazy IPA is called "hazy" quite simply because of its cloudy, opaque appearance, which is a deliberate and defining characteristic of the style. Unlike the crystal-clear appearance that was traditionally sought after in most beers, the turbidity in a hazy IPA is a key feature that brewers intentionally create.
Drinking and cooking!
The first can got tanned whilst I was heating leftovers to make some tacos!
One down one to go!
Word of warning, this is one of my favourite drinks at the moment. It is so smooth and so fluffing tasty!
Cheers 🍻🌮
My Verdict
I do prefer hazy IPAs, they seem to be more intentionally crafted and I find often are tastier.
A sweet juicy and soft hazy IPA bursting with tropical fruit is what you get! So not like Scotland as you taste pineapple, mango, and citrus. It wasn't very bitter but goodness me it was drinkable!
What about you... do you drink hazy IPAs?
Posting about a beer on a Saturday on the Beer Community ....
Cheers to local beers and Happy Summer everyone
