I picked up this pack at EntertainMart while passing through Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. This store is conveniently located just off I-90 at 4th Avenue and Appleway. Yes, I hope you read that last sentence in the smarmy voice of a local TV ad for a car dealership or furniture store.
They put a sticker on the pack. Oh, the horror! I plan to open this, though, not stash it. I don't really mind. These new packs are designed to support those of us who favor Commander/EDH by including more cards from various sets, and extra uncommon and rare cards specific to the format. As such, my cardboard box lid backdrop for these photos is a bit crowded.
The variety of commons seems designed to satisfy diverse deck archetypes already. The two red treasure token generators will come in handy for one deck I want to try out.
I am not a huge fan of Furnace Celebration, but I suppose it could work in a sacrificial deck with mana support. Warden of Evos Isle is a staple in any deck with blue and creatures that fly. Arcane Signet is a Commander-specific mana rock. Tormod, the Desecrator is also intended for Commnder, and is intended to offer an option for deck customization with another partnered Commander. If I am not mistaken, these cards may be one of the themes in this set, with one in each pack, but don't quote me on that.
Training Center is an interesting land that is better if there are two or more opponents sonit does not enter tapped. An interesting concept for sure, especially since Commander is often played in larger groups. This card is also probably worth the price of the pack on its own.
Colfenor, the Last Yew would be a great Treefolk tribal commander, or just a solid graveyard exploiter extraordinaire. I need to give this guy a deck. Not a high-price card, but it looks fun.
Our foil is a Moss Diamond green mana rock. Not bad. And last, we get a token Zombie card.
All told, not a bad outcome. This was fun. Maybe I'll buy a few more and see what I get.
