DepEd Cebu Province initiated or conducted this SY 2022-2023 Master Teachers' Summit: Teaching Demonstration Festival and Exhibit of Contextualized GAD Compliant Learning Materials on various dates and designated venues. This activity aims to review relevant DepEd issuances as the basis of the duties and responsibilities of the Master Teachers in promoting gender equity in schools; to familiarize Gender and Development and its importance in classroom management, development of instructional materials, and use of instructional language; to demonstrate strategies in utilizing developmentally-appropriate contextualized GAD-compliant teaching- learning materials; to benchmark and share best practices through the exhibit of GAD-compliant leaning material’s; and to appreciate one's job as Master Teachers in adherence to DepEd's organizational rules and guides.
The Participants of the activity are all elementary and secondary school Master Teachers, Education program Specialists II-ALS, Public Schools District Supervisors, and Education Program Supervisors/Coordinators with the Division Chiefs and Assistant Schools Division Superintendents. The activity was done last March 9 to 11,2023.
The Venue
The activity was held at Carmen National High School, Carmen Cebu. From my hometown, it took almost two and a half hours to travel. Their school was very nice, well-landscaped, safe, and clean. They welcomed the participants with a warm and friendly attitude. They had a fantastic accommodations and hosted the activity very well. It was perfect hosting. Thus the participants had a wonderful moment at Carmen National High School. They brought with them to their respective places the contentment and satisfaction of the activity.
First Day of The Summit
The first day started with the opening program. After the opening was the discussion of the activity matrix, Deped Organizational Structure, Master Teachers' duties and responsibilities, and how to conduct mentoring and coaching. We were reminded of our duties and responsibilities as master teachers. The morning session ended with lots of learning.
The afternoon session was the break-out session by department elementary and secondary.During our breakout session, the secondary teachers were grouped by subject. For each subject, demonstrators were drawn by lot. Luckily, I was not picked. I was assigned as a process observer. So, I felt happy since I am not the teacher demonstrator. It's not easy to demonstrate especially if you are not prepared. We just agreed that the process observer will help or conduct a pre-conference with the demonstrator to check the lesson plan before the actual demonstration. So the agreement was carried out and it will be done on the second day of our Summit.
After the breakout session, we started making our assigned Booth. We were assigned to exhibit a Science Booth. So we agreed on a concept before started constructing and install our Science Booth for science instructional materials. Our concept was the entire universe. Since we don't have enough materials for the making of our planned concept for the Science Booth. we hired an expert but we instructed him on what to do to realize our concept.
Second Day of Summit
On the second day of our Summit, was the demonstration festival. I conducted a pre coference with the teacher demonstrator in TLE. I reviewed and edited the lesson plan and instructed her on what to prepare.fter finalizing the lesson plan, I continued designing our IMs and Science Booth. Other Master teachers both Elementary and Secondary were very busy with their demonstrations, others were assigned as process observers too, documenters, and videographers. It was really a festival of demonstrations. The best Summit for me I ever attended since teachers were allowed to demonstrate and earned certificates as demonstrators at the division level which is the primary requirement for promotion from Master Teacher I to Master Teacher 2 and so on. After lthe demonstration Festival, we continued designing our booth and arranging our IMs.
Third-Day of Summit
On the third day of the Summit was the final judgment of our Booth and awarding ceremony. We were very busy with our IMS. We labeled our Ims and wrote various competency codes and crafted sample lesson plans. The idea was suggested by our Division Science Coordinator. After the opening, the Galery walked to the different Booth. We enjoyed our Galery walk taking pictures in each booth. After the gallery walk, the judges visit the different booths. I was assigned to defend our booth. It's quite good that I know the judge's question and I was able to discuss our concept and the sample IMs he asked.
After the judging was the closing program. We received our certificates from the demonstrator, process observers, and other tasks assigned. Finally was the announcement of various awards during the exhibit or Booth. Luckily we garnered multiple awards. We won as best in content, best in creativity and aesthetic, best in appeal, and best in Exhibit. We did not expect that we will win. All our hard work and sleepless nights paid off. The cooperation and unity of the team contributed to the success and receiving multiple awards. Thankful to all the people who shared in anyways for this endeavor.
