Camotes Island has become one of my favorite island destinations in Cebu. If you've been following my blogs you would know I am also crazy about Bantayan Island and Malapascua Island. My recent travel blogs were actually about my solo trip to Bantayan.
What makes Camotes Island really inviting is its proximity. It's only an hour and a half drive and a 45-minute ferry away from where I live. While that might not be near to some people, the other island destinations in Cebu require at least 6 hours of travel time.
During one of my return trips to Camotes Island, I had the chance to visit Mangodlong Rock for the first time. It's a popular beach resort in the western part of the island.
I was with my work colleagues during this trip. Mangodlong Rock was our first destination. When we arrived at the resort, I immediately looked for "the rock," because why would it be called "Mangodlong Rock" if there was not a remarkable rock to see there?
But what I saw was a giant yellow Octopus. I mean there was still a big rock, but what grabbed my attention was the yellow creature in the middle of it. We went closer and saw that it was actually a water slide. Unfortunately, upon closer inspection, it looked like it hadn't been operating. I suspected the pandemic to be the reason. Still, the structure looked safe enough to explore so we went inside it. Some tentacles served as stairs going to the head of the Octopus. Up there, you could slide down on some of the tentacles and go down to the sea. Of course, we couldn't use the slide because it was dry. But I could imagine how fun it must be to slide on a giant yellow Octopus tentacle and fall into the sea.
Who knows? Maybe on my next visit, the Octopus would be brought back to life.
Well, I actually returned to Mangodlong Rock after a few months, so look out for that blog to find out about it. 😉
