It was last August 19,2024 when I got hired as a Senior High School Teacher I here at Tuburan National High School, Tuburan, Cebu, Philippines, back then I did not have any class advisory I was only a subject teacher and on December 2024, I was given my own class advisory and during that time, I was really clueless to the processing of forms and files but luckily I got my co-teachers who served as my guide and I am really thankful for those who lend a helping hand.
Now that it is already my second class advisory, I can finally say I am a better teacher now and I have learned a lot from my first class advisory and I am now able to adjust to the forms and paper works which are quite a lot. I can now say I can survive it better now.
Last June 16,2025, classes began and it was my second time handling my class advisory. I am still a class adviser for Grade 12 Unity under the Technical Vocational Strand - Home Economics (House Keeping Strand).
For this school year 2025-2026, I am looking forward to be able to make more fond memories with my new class advisory, my second class advisory to be exact.
To be honest, I still miss my old class advisory (the first class advisory I had class of 2024-2025) but as much as I want to stay with them until now, it does not go that way most especially as a class adviser, learners come and go and we are given a new set of learners per school year. I am now open to meeting new learners and then making new fond memories with them, which I am really looking forward for.
As a public school teacher here in the Philippines, we get to meet a lot of learners especially those who are from families who are not that financially gifted, yet they still strive to go to school, we meet learners from different places and from different cultures and traditions which I love most because my learners teaches me a lot of valuable life lessons also.
When everyone was settled down on their desired seats, I started by a welcome presentation for them. I welcomed them to my section, the Grade 12 Unity. I made sure they felt welcome and accepted in my class.
I then introduced myself to them as their classroom adviser and also their PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT subject teacher. I set all my expectations and all of them also had the chance to introduce themselves to their classmates.
In total, I have 60 learners and I am accepting the challenge of keeping the class sane despite of this huge population, last school year I only had 52 learners and it already was quite a mess. How much more for 60 learners. But, I am and I will make sure to give them the most conducive means of learning. Being a teacher means being selfless for your learners.
GRADE 12 UNITY BATCH 2024-2025 CLASSROOM OFFICERS
For the first order of business, we did an election for our classroom officers. I do not have any idea who among them are the most responsible and most deserving to be called "leaders" but since they have known each other because they came from the same section during their Grade 11 years. These learners are from two different sections.
Electing classroom officers is really essential most especially because these classroom officers serve as the second facilitators of their classmates when the teacher is not around.
Doing such activity as election also helps them practice the real-life election and voting responsible leaders that helps for the near future. That is almost exactly the same thing.
Next, I discussed the school policy and classroom rules.
Most of these learners are already aware of the school policy since they have been enrolled here in Tuburan National High School since Grade 7. But to remind them and give them a full review of the policy, I made sure to discuss it with them.
Discussing the classroom rules and policies is also essential for them to have a heads up of what I want and do not want to happen in our classroom as a means of classroom management.
I also asked them what were their expectations from me and most of them almost had the same answers, they expect be to be approachable and a kind teacher. I really consider myself one because ever since I became a teacher, I really learned how to extend my patience.
After our short orientation, I proceeded with taking their height and weight which will be used for our Form 8 which is the Learner's Basic Health and Nutrition Report, we need to check their weight and height from the moment class begins and when it ends.
On my first few months of being a public school teacher, I also wondered why it is our task to check on our learner's height and weight since we do have a school clinic and a nurse, but since that task has been given to us, we comply and pass the forms without hesitations. Now, I am able to adjust since this class is already my second class advisory.
My class advisory also had a sense of urgency and they followed what I instructed them to do. I am glad they are responsible enough to do the measuring of height and weight with less supervision from me.
As a public school teacher here in the Philippines, it is really important to make sure learners are equally taken cared off and equally given importance despite the massive population each classroom has. I am constantly practicing being more patient.
To end our first day of school, we took some group photos which as seen on the photo that we are incomplete. It was a fun experience with my second class advisory, my Grade 12 Unity Class of 2025-2026.
