Hey Hivers! It’s me again Jera back again with another blog. Today, I want to share my journey through the world of beauty pageants. A journey that is filled with self-doubts, worries, unexpected support and ultimately, a crown.
April last year, I can still remember the moment I decided to join my first-ever barangay beauty pageant. Sounds like an exciting journey, but at the same time, a scary leap. You see, I’m just a 5-foot- tall woman in a world where the typical beauty contestant is often taller, with model-like features. The thought of stepping on stage with such standards looming over me made my heart race. I couldn’t help but question if I was enough.

The thought of stepping on stage with such standards looming over me made my heart race. I couldn’t help but question if I was enough.
Day by day as the competition draw nearer, doubt started to crept in. I doubted my capability. Questions started to linger in my mind. What if I fail? Would the judges see me as I saw myself? I’m way too far from the beauty of other contestants. To tell you honestly, I thought about backing out so many times. My family and friends are the only reason that keeps me going. There incredible and warm support push me to continue the journey. They were my backbone and my motivator when I’m about to give up, constantly reminding me that my worth isn’t defined by my height.
My parents, in particular, were my rock. They would always remind me of the importance of believing in myself. They stressed that the crown is not just about looks but also how you carry yourself and the heart you bring to the competition. This warmth and encouragement began to chip away at my self-doubt.
My friends were equally supportive. They helped me prepare, practiced my walk with me, even if I cried sometimes because I feel like I can’t make a good and smooth walk with a 7 inches high heel. During the Talent’s Night Competition, I remember how nervous I am. It was my first time dancing in front of many people. But I’m super blessed to be surrounded with loving and supportive individual, especially my dance partner and dance trainer who never doubted my skills. They believed in me when I, myself struggled to believe in myself. They never fail to remind me that I was already a winner for having the courage to step outside my comfort zone. Their faith in me ignited a spark within me that I didn’t know existed.
The moment of truth finally arrived. The night we’ve been waiting for. All my nerves were literally shaking. I couldn’t explain what I felt during that moment, but I never let my nervousness consume and distract me, I found the courage to embrace who I am. Short, maybe, but full of passion and determination. With my support system behind me, I stepped on that stage bringing the love and support from the people who were there for me from the very beginning of the competition.
When they finally announced the winner, I was in complete disbelief. “Miss Mantija Tourism 2024!” The moment felt surreal. I wasn’t able to move for few seconds because I really can’t believe that I made it. In that moment, I felt a deep sense of joy and pride. Not just I won and crowned as Miss Mantija Tourism 2024 , I was also able to embrace my insecurities and overcome my doubts.
While wearing the crown, it reminds me that sometimes, the biggest challenges in our life brings out the best in us. We just need to trust in our self. This journey of mine, taught me a lot of things. Beauty cannot about what you see on the outside, it’s about confidence, kindness, and the love we share with others.
To anyone out there doubting themselves- no matter your height, weight, or background. ALWAYS remember that you are enough. With the support of the people around you and self-belief, you can achieve amazing things. DO IT AFRAID, DO IT SCARED! Until next time HIVERS!
