Hello, fellow Hive users! Lester here! How are you all doing today? October is almost here, and before that, I would like to share my takeaways from the recent Couples Getaway that we attended. This post will also answer one of the questions in Hive PH's blogging contest: "Have you learned something valuable from past Septembers? Tell us how it helped you." Although today is still September, I hope that this post can be considered valid. 😅
This year's Couples Getaway, hosted by Victory Fort Bonifacio, was held at Quest Plus Conference Center in Clark, Pampanga, on September 21 and 22. This overnight retreat is designed for couples to strengthen their bond and learn about Godly ways to treat their spouses from various speakers.
For this year's Couples Getaway, my first takeaway is to always choose your battles. The speaker shared a quite popular saying that we have since applied in our marriage. The saying is, "In light of eternity, does this matter?" When we adopt this perspective, we ask ourselves whether the current disagreement truly matters in the grand scheme of things. Applying this perspective helped us gradually forgive each other and foster better understanding. After all, at the end of the day, your spouse is your partner and teammate in this game called life.
My second takeaway is the phrase, 'No for now, but not forever.' This means that there are many seasons in our lives, especially in our marriage. One bad decision or a single argument does not imply that our marriage is doomed. Conflicts are a natural part of marriage. This mindset can also be applied to our daily decision-making. We should ask ourselves, 'Does this truly matter today? Can it wait until tomorrow? Can we postpone it? Is achieving this goal an immediate necessity?'
By applying these two takeaways, we realized that even though we've been married for nearly 4 years, we still have much to learn about each other. We hope that these insights will continue to guide us on our journey together.
