El Atleti de Simeone ha redondeado una semana tan oscura como amarga, tras haber vencido al Betis el fin de semana pasado por LaLiga, los del Cholo se presentaban a su cita ante el Bayer Leverkusen de Xabi Alonso en el Metropolitano; la victoria ante el cuadro de las Aspirinas era fundamental para mantener vivas sus esperanzas dentro de la UEFA Champions Legaue.
El miércoles en el Metropolitano, el fútbol fue cruel con el conjunto de Simeone, pues los colchoneros vinieron de atrás un par de veces en el marcador con goles de Carrasco y de Rodrigo de Paul para emparejar tras goles de Diaby y de Hudson-Odoi respectivamente. Esperanzas vivas incluso después del silbatazo final pues el VAR avisó al colegiado de una mano dentro del área alemana y la oportunidad para el Atleti de renacer una vez muerto; al manchón Yannick Ferreira Carrasco que falló el cobro, un rebote y puerta abierta para Saúl que la estrelló contra el palo y en un tercer intento la defensa terminó tapando quien sabe como. ¡Frenético y doloroso final para el Atleti!
Tras el doloroso episodio del miércoles, los colchoneros solo pueden aspirar a buscar su billete a la UEFA Europa League visitando al Porto en el Estadio Do Dragao el próximo martes, pero el fútbol no para, y entre medias se le presentaba al Atleti una inmejorable oportunidad de mejorar sus sensaciones, de lamerse las heridas y mejorar los ánimos para buscar rescatar la temporada europea en el siempre complejo feudo del Oporto; los de Simeone visitaban al Cádiz en “La Tacita de Plata” por LaLiga.
Simeone's Atleti have rounded off a week as dark as it has been bitter, having beaten Betis last weekend in LaLiga, Cholo's side went into their game against Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen at the Metropolitano; victory against the Aspirin side was vital to keep their UEFA Champions League hopes alive.
On Wednesday at the Metropolitano, football was cruel to Simeone's side, as the colchoneros came from behind a couple of times on goals from Carrasco and Rodrigo de Paul to draw level after goals from Diaby and Hudson-Odoi respectively. Hopes were alive even after the final whistle as the VAR alerted the referee to a handball inside the German box and the chance for Atleti to be reborn once dead; to the spot Yannick Ferreira Carrasco who missed the spot kick, a rebound and an open goal for Saúl who smashed it against the crossbar and in a third attempt the defence ended up covering who knows how. Frenzied and painful end for Atleti!
After Wednesday's painful episode, Los Colchoneros can only hope for a UEFA Europa League ticket when they visit Porto at the Estadio Do Dragao next Tuesday, but football doesn't stop, and in between there was an unbeatable opportunity for Atleti to improve their feelings, lick their wounds and improve their spirits to rescue the European season at the always complex home of Porto; Simeone's side visited Cádiz in "La Tacita de Plata" for LaLiga.

El conjunto cadista no había podido ganar ninguno de sus últimos siete partidos como local ante el cuadro colchonero con tres empates y cuatro derrotas en ese lapso. Con Diego Pablo Simeone al mando del Atlético de Madrid, los colchoneros habían ganado sus cuatro encuentros ante el Cádiz. La estadística era promisoria para la causa colchonera.
Pero el fútbol tenía preparada una nueva trastada al conjunto de la capital española; nada más arrancar el partido, un pelotazo a profundidad encontró la carrera de “el Pacha” Espino que en línea de fondo asistió in extremis a Théo Bongonda que llegaba en segunda línea para disparar y en tan solo 27 segundos poder adelantar al cuadro dirigido por Sergio Gónzalez.
Los gaditanos aguantaron estoicamente en un partido en el que los de Simeone se hicieron de la pelota, pero daban la impresión de no saber qué hacer con ella. Cumplieda la hora de juego Simeone dio entrada a Joao Féliz y a Antoine Griezmann buscando cambiarle la cara a su equipo, pero al 81’, el Cádiz volvía a rescatar una pelota que se iba por la línea de de fondo y era nuevamente “el Pacha” Espino quien asistía, en esta ocasión a Alex Fernandez que ponía el 2-0 en favor de los andaluces.
Cadiz had failed to win any of their last seven home games against the Colchoneros, with three draws and four defeats in that span. Under Diego Pablo Simeone at the helm of Atlético de Madrid, the colchoneros had won all four of their matches against Cádiz. The statistics were promising for the Colchoneros' cause.
But football had a new trick in store for the team from the Spanish capital; as soon as the match kicked off, a deep ball found the run of "el Pacha" Espino who, on the end line, assisted in extremis to Théo Bongonda who arrived in the second line to shoot and in just 27 seconds to put the team led by Sergio Gónzalez ahead.
The Gaditanos held on stoically in a game in which Simeone's side had the ball, but gave the impression of not knowing what to do with it. On the hour mark, Simeone brought on Joao Féliz and Antoine Griezmann in an attempt to change the face of his team, but on 81', Cádiz again rescued a ball that went down the byline and it was again "El Pacha" Espino who assisted, this time to Alex Fernandez who made it 2-0 in favour of the Andalusians.
Pero el Atleti, ¿cuando no?, tiró de corazón y agallas y encontraría una reacción tan solo 4 minutos más tarde, con un remate acrobático de Joao Félix que terminaría siendo desviado por Luis Hernandez y anidando en las redes de “Connan” Ledesma. 2-1 el Atleti a 5 de cumplirse los 90 reglamentarios.
Y tan solo 4 minutos tras el gol del descuento, nuevamente “el Menino do Ouro” se haría presente para empujar a los suyos a la remontada, Joao Félix recibió de Antoine Griezmann y disparó con la derecha un riflazo de largo alcance para batir a Ledesma. 2-2 en el Nuevo Mirandilla y “el Cholo” aupaba a los suyos a buscar los tres puntos.
El fútbol que puede ser cruel muchas ocasiones, y con el Atleti lo ha sido unas cuantas, habría de terminar matando a un Atleti que volvió a la vida por mediación de uno de sus jugadores tan talentoso como cuestionado. La iluminación de Joao no bastó, porque sobre el último suspiro del tiempo añadido desbordó el Cádiz, línea de final para Iván Alejo y un centro que Rubén Sobrino empujaba con el abdomen para firmar el 3-2 del conjunto cadista y lo que era apenas su segunda victoria del torneo.
But Atleti, when not, showed heart and guts and found a reaction just 4 minutes later, with an acrobatic shot by Joao Felix that ended up being deflected by Luis Hernandez and nestling in the goal of "Connan" Ledesma. 2-1 to Atleti with 5 minutes left in the 90 minutes.
And just 4 minutes later, the "Menino do Ouro" would be present again to push his team to the comeback, Joao Felix received from Antoine Griezmann and shot with the right a long-range shot to beat Ledesma. 2-2 at the Nuevo Mirandilla and "el Cholo" had his side looking for the three points.
Football, which can be cruel on many occasions, and with Atleti has been cruel on a number of occasions, would end up killing an Atleti side that came back to life through one of their players as talented as he has been questioned. Joao's illumination was not enough, as in the last gasp of stoppage time Cadiz broke the deadlock, with Iván Alejo's end-line cross being pushed in by Rubén Sobrino with his belly to make it 3-2 to Cadiz and what was only their second win of the tournament.

Los primeros segundos del encuentro y los últimos del mismo tuvieron la misma tónica, gol para el Cádiz y durísimos golpes para un Atlético de Madrid que ha vuelto a sufrir un complejo varapalo en tiempo de compensación. El Atleti de Simeone ha muerto dos veces en una semana cuando lo tenía todo servido para poder aferrarse a la vida in extremis. Ha caído el Atleti por vez primera ante el Cadiz desde 1989.
El gol de Bongonda a los 27 segundos representa el gol más tempranero que ha encajado el Atlético de Madrid desde Diciembre de 2003 , aquel gol de Ronaldo contra el Madrid a los 13 segundos; mientras que el tanto de Rubén Sobrino en el minuto 98:08 es el gol más tardío que ha encajado el cuadro colchonero en lo que va del Siglo XXI. Vaya un par de golpes de obertura y cierre para Simeone y los suyos.
The first and last seconds of the game had the same tone, a goal for Cádiz and hard blows for Atlético de Madrid, who have once again suffered a knock-out blow in stoppage time. Simeone's Atleti have died twice in a week when they had everything they needed to cling on to life in extremis. Atleti lost for the first time against Cadiz since 1989.
Bongonda's 27-second strike represents the earliest goal Atletico Madrid have conceded since Ronaldo's 13-second strike against Madrid in December 2003, while Ruben Sobrino's goal at the 98:08 mark is the latest goal Atletico have conceded in the 21st century. What a pair of overture and closing strikes for Simeone and his side.
