Welcome for the fruitage Series. This post, we will talk about Goodness, one of the Fruitage of Holy Spirit and see how it can promote unity among us despite our color, tribe, language, economic status, educational background etc.
Goodness
According to Oxford Dictionary, one of the common Dictionary in the world defined the term "Goodness" as the quality of being morally good and virtuous. What then is being "good"? Same renowned Dictionary, Oxford says that it is that which is morally right or being righteous. So applying it to humans, One can only be good person when he/she does what is right to others and nothing bad can be ascribe to that person.
However, being good might be difficult to every humans. Due to several factors mitigating against this wonderful quality. But, it can't be overruled, because we have several good examples of people to learn from. The very first person is God, He is a good being. He do good things to us despite our short coming. He keep doing good things to us. Giving us Sunlight, rains, food, water for free. He does not discriminates or partially give out. He does not harm anyone but keep warning us of the dangers of being evil. He forgive us freely and clean all the evil thoughts as if it has not happened before.
Another person is Jesus, he is a good being too. He sacrifices his life for his followers and friends. He feeds the poor and hungry ones, cures sick ones for free and motivate them by his words. He is worthy to be emulated .
After from the two above, Many of other people have been remarkable in being "morally good". Although these individuals have faults but they conquer evil with good acts. King David of ancient Isreal is a good example. Be anointed to replace his master, Saul. He did not boast but still humble. Saul was jealous and fight severally to kill David. David was protected and have chances to avenge but he did not do such "evil". What a good example for us. Joseph was tempted to have sex with his master's wife but did not do such an evil against his master and God. A good example for us too and many others.
Conclusion
To be morally good will be easier for us, if we decide from today to copy from the worthy examples of people mentioned above. One can keep doing good things to others despite their short comings. Feed others and care for them without expecting mere gifts or commendations. Avoid doing evil to others too even without them knowing. Be honest and respectful. If we all inculcate this quality, everyone will be in unity. Freedom and peace will spread the whole earth and hatred will cease forever.
