Good afternoon peeps, today I thought I’d share my process for painting intermediate level bone armor with some deep shading.
First things first, prime and basecoat your model. I started with a matte black primer then layered XV-88 to Morghast Bone to Screaming Skull. Make sure to thin your paints.
With that obvious step done take the Morghast Bone and thin it down to a Glaze consistency and begin shading the areas that you want to be shaded. In this case I’m going for a simple top lightsource. Be sure to get into the recesses as well.
Next take a 2:1 mix of Morghast Bone + Rhinox Hide and do the same, taking up less area than the previous step.
Next glaze in some Screaming skull into the highlight area to smoothen the transition and brung light back to the piece. Then take a 1:1 mix of Screaming Skull + Ulthuan Grey and glaze the highlight in.
Finally take the Screaming Skull + Ulthuan Grey mix and edge highlight. If you wish to further brighten the edges you can use plain Ulthuan to add that extra pop.
And bam, nice intermediate bone color done, and it really doesn’t take too long especially if you know how to use an airbrush.
