I'd been shooting and editing videos professionally for at least 2 years with at least entry-level industry equipment. But before I started shooting that, I'd been shooting videos on my mobile phone as far back as I can remember. I'd even shot client work like weddings on my mobile phone many times in the past.
Through it all, my dream has always been to shoot cinematic film content, not just videos for social media consumption. So I was really into all that visual storytelling and perspective shots.
I've learnt that when it comes to making engaging cinematic videos, sticking to the simple things is what makes the difference.
It's about the STORY and the FEEL, not necessarily the GEAR. The gear is just what helps you achieve that. Whether you shoot your video in 720p or 4k, if you invoke the desired feeling/reaction you want in your audience, your job is done.
In this video I try to use simple tools to make a boring video look like a part of a cinematic motion picture - and I did this on a smartphone.
I randomly took a video of my keys and a few things on my reading table with a panoramic movement and then tried to make it more interesting.
Here are 5 things I did to get the shot in the video:
Había estado grabando y editando videos profesionalmente durante al menos 2 años con al menos equipo industrial de nivel básico. Pero antes de empezar a grabar eso, había estado grabando vídeos con mi teléfono móvil desde que tengo uso de razón. Incluso había fotografiado trabajos de clientes como bodas con mi teléfono móvil muchas veces en el pasado. A pesar de todo, mi sueño siempre ha sido filmar contenido cinematográfico, no solo videos para consumo en las redes sociales. Así que estaba realmente interesado en toda esa narración visual y tomas en perspectiva. Aprendí que cuando se trata de hacer videos cinematográficos atractivos, lo que marca la diferencia es apegarse a las cosas simples. Se trata de la HISTORIA y el SENTIMIENTO, no necesariamente del EQUIPO. El equipo es justo lo que te ayuda a lograrlo. Ya sea que grabes tu video en 720p o 4k, si invocas el sentimiento/reacción que deseas en tu audiencia, tu trabajo está hecho. En este video intento usar herramientas simples para hacer que un video aburrido parezca parte de una película cinematográfica, y lo hice en un teléfono inteligente. Tomé al azar un video de mis llaves y algunas cosas en mi mesa de lectura con un movimiento panorámico y luego intenté hacerlo más interesante.
Aquí hay 5 cosas que hice para conseguir la foto del vídeo:
- SHOOT IN PRO VIDEO MODE: Most mobile phones have a Pro video mode where you can adjust individual settings while shooting. This enables you to adjust the look of the video and prevent overblown highlights, clunky focusing or noise.
DISPARA EN MODO DE VIDEO PRO: La mayoría de los teléfonos móviles tienen un modo de video Pro donde puedes ajustar configuraciones individuales mientras grabas. Esto le permite ajustar el aspecto del vídeo y evitar reflejos exagerados, enfoques torpes o ruidos.
- MAKE USE OF PERSPECTIVES: Shooting static is the enemy of depth in your videos. Except you're doing a headshot, subtle left to right, up to down, or diagonal movements at angles make your subjects depth more appreciable. This alone makes your video look professional. Here I just did a quick right to left movement.
HAGA USO DE LAS PERSPECTIVAS: Las tomas estáticas son enemigas de la profundidad en sus videos. Excepto que estés tomando una foto de la cabeza, los movimientos sutiles de izquierda a derecha, de arriba a abajo o en diagonal en ángulos hacen que la profundidad de los sujetos sea más apreciable. Esto por sí solo hace que tu vídeo parezca profesional. Aquí simplemente hice un movimiento rápido de derecha a izquierda.
- USE HIGH FRAME RATES: Making the details of your shots pronounced can be a very useful tool for a cinematic shots. A smooth slow motion movement might just be the icing on the cake of your shot.
For this, I shot it in 120fps instead of the usual default 24/30/60fps, capturing all the details. Not all phones can do 120fps, but most will still do 60fps.m, which is not bad at all for slow-mo.
I then slowed it down while editing.
UTILIZAR VELOCIDADES DE CUADRO ALTAS: Hacer que los detalles de tus tomas sean pronunciados puede ser una herramienta muy útil para tomas cinematográficas. Un movimiento suave en cámara lenta podría ser la guinda del pastel de tu toma. Para esto, lo filmé a 120 fps en lugar de los 24/30/60 fps predeterminados habituales, capturando todos los detalles. No todos los teléfonos pueden funcionar a 120 fps, pero la mayoría seguirá funcionando a 60 fps.m, lo que no está nada mal para la cámara lenta. Luego lo ralenticé mientras editaba.
- COLOUR GRADE: The colours and looks of your video send a feel of what the story is like to audience. Do you want to mute the colours? Or make them vibrant? Or dusty? Or shoot black and white?
The story is different for whatever colours you display.
I graded this using a cine-style preset and then adjusted some of the other settings to make it all blend well.
GRADO DE COLOR: Los colores y la apariencia de tu video transmiten a la audiencia una idea de cómo es la historia. ¿Quieres silenciar los colores? ¿O hacerlos vibrantes? ¿O polvoriento? ¿O fotografiar en blanco y negro? La historia es diferente para cualquier color que muestres. Califiqué esto usando un ajuste preestablecido de estilo cinematográfico y luego ajusté algunas de las otras configuraciones para que todo se combinara bien.
- SOUND DESIGN: Audio is king, even in video. It's what draws people in, even beyond the visuals. A soundtrack that carries the mood always drives the narrative in the direction of that mood. So this is super-important.
I used an anticipatory sound track here and it made it feel like a shot out of an action movie, at least to me😅.
DISEÑO DE SONIDO: El audio es el rey, incluso en video. Es lo que atrae a la gente, incluso más allá de lo visual. Una banda sonora que transmite el estado de ánimo siempre dirige la narrativa en la dirección de ese estado de ánimo. Entonces esto es muy importante. Utilicé una banda sonora anticipatoria aquí y lo hizo sentir como una toma de una película de acción, al menos para mí😅.
After I was done with all these, I exported the video in 4k thereby upscaling it.
Una vez que terminé con todo esto, exporté el video en 4k y lo amplié.
