Hello, lovely hivers, welcome to my blog, it's always heartwarming to have you stop by. Wishing you all a relaxing and fun-filled weekend.
During the week, I made this beautiful circle dress for my friend's daughter, it's the graduation period in my country right now, where students get promoted to a higher class to celebrate this, a graduation ceremony is usually conducted, and all students are expected to look their best. My friend's daughter just completed her primary school education and will be graduating to a secondary/high school, she deserves a beautiful dress for making us proud of her as she did beautifully well in her exams too.

So in today's DIY process, it will be the making of this dress, her mum thought of getting a ready-made one in the store but the prices were exorbitant and she couldn't afford them, so I decided to recreate the design she liked, getting the materials and making them myself is much cheaper and easy to make, also I can add an extra touch to my design to make it unique.
Without further ado, let's get right into the making process.
Materials / Tools used
- Pink crepe fabric
- Cotton lining
- Zipper
- Applique
- Hard net
Sewing machine, tape rule, scissors.
PROCESS
STEP 1
I started by drafting the front pattern, with the plain crepe fabric and also replicated it using the lining fabric.
STEP 2
I drafted the back pattern, also a V-neckline, replicating it with the lining pattern too.
STEP 3
Next, I drafted a basic 3- quarter sleeve
Step 4
I joined the main crepe front and back pattern by the shoulders and also did the same with the lining fabric
Step 5
I turned all the upper front and back patterns pieces with the lining piece for a neater finishing around the raw edges, I added belts to the side waist and also added the sleeves at both sides of the armhole.
Step 6
For the down part of the gown, I cut out the flare, using her waist measurement as the radius, this was also replicated with a lining fabric.
Step 7
Finally, I joined the flare to the already finished upper side of the gown and also pleated the hard net on the lining part for more fullness.
To add more sophistication, I gummed the white applique around the waistline, the hem of the sleeves, and one part of the neckline.
Her beautiful graduation dress is ready ✨
What do you think of this design? She would be rocking it to her graduation ceremony today, I couldn't wait to receive a picture of her in the dress, the excitement in her voice after she received and fitted the dress, shows she absolutely loved it. I'll appreciate your feedback in the comment section, it is always encouraging when I get to read them.
