Now, the midterm examinations are already on edge and somehow I've managed to traverse my summative assessments which is why I now have some free time to chill and share another blog here. As I've already mentioned, the past weeks have been so busy and one of the reasons for that is our creation of the Miniature Ivatan House, this project will not be included in our performance task but it will also be included in our daily quiz since making this miniature Ivatan would take a lot of time and it won't just be finished in just a day.
What is an Ivatan House?
To those who are curious as to what could be this Ivatan House, it is a traditional dwelling for the Ivatan people, Indigenous to the Batanes Island here in the Philippines. There are distinguished features that can only be found in this dwelling house. First, it has stone foundations and walls that can withstand strong winds and earthquakes. Second, it has wooden beams and framing, thatched iron roofing and even small windows and doors. There were even Ivatan Houses that were over 100 years old and houses were often built together forming a tight-knit community.
Since we were only tasked to do a miniature, the materials that we could afford to seek were the grovel stones for the foundation of the house and the tropical grass as a main component for the roof.
Acquiring the materials had been a fun and tiring process, We even went to the Tuburan Borbon, Cebu since the place was the only one that could cater to our needs to get the grovels suited for the miniature We even managed to get some of our classmates to join in our endeavor and that makes the whole thing more enjoyable to do.
The Process of Making the Ivatan House
We've gathered all of our materials and slowly we try to build our foundation for the miniature house by mixing the cement with sand to solidify the grovel rocks.
It takes time to let the cement dry so what we did is wait for days until we could add by then another level for our house.
We even did make a lighthouse for the miniature house, It was carefully crafted by my classmates and some had said that our miniature house looked like a tourist spot rather than just a simple house.
It took us several days to finally complete our miniature Ivatan House and all I could share is that it was all worth it since we've managed to get good feedback and grades from our craftsmanship.
Looking back, it's satisfying how our efforts have paid off even though we're always in a tight spot because of the never-ending hurdles of academic obligation. I still think that all of this would be a wonderful experience for me.
