Hello Everyone!
Today I will be sharing my first time experience of stool making with a tile top. One of the joy of being a teacher for me, is not just teaching, but it's the fact that I get to learn new things. One of my Subjects at my place of work is Basic Science and Technology, which happen to be the only subject I teach the junior classes, and I only teach the JSS3 (Junior Secondary School 3) this particular subject. My other subjects are mathematics and further mathematics for the senior classes.
For the just concluded BECE ( Basic Education Certificate Examination), the Project work give to the students for Basic Science and Technology was for them to construct a Stool of 30x30x35 (Length X Breadth X Height) and the stool must have a tile top. As the subject teacher, I got all the materials, thanks to the management of the school for that and also the students. I went to the sawmill to get woods and have them cut to the required sizes and then I took everything with me to school.
Well, from the diagram of how we want out stool to look, we made the first one and saw how good it was, and then I supervised and assist until we completed the others. Because of my love for my students, I received three injures on my left arm (three injures, JSS3 😂😂😂😂 laugh when you understand the joke).
How we did it
First we created the stool frames and also created the frame of the top of the stool where the tiles will be attached to. The top stool frame was glue to a Plyboard.
Secondly, we attached the top frame to the stool frame.
The third thing we did was use top bond glue to attach the tile to the stool, then smoothen the body of the stool using sand paper.
The fourth thing was the final stage, we spray our stool using furniture spray. You can see the different images below.
Materials Used
Woods, Tiles, Nails, Hammers, Hand Saw, Top Bond Glue, Furniture Spray, Flat Plyboard, Tape, Sand Paper (rough/smooth).
Working with my students to get this done was beautiful, we had fun while at it. I don't joke with the teacher-student relationship, I always love to bond with my students. Well, there you have it, my first clueless job as a carpenter 😂😂😂
