Hey there bee friends! It's been a hot minute since I wrote a blog, so I thought I'd write about what I've been up to lately. Still setting up in New Apartment (yes I'm slow), but the end is near! I finally began putting up Yuan's climbing shelves:
These are shelves that I made from the wood of an old broken bookshelf a while back for the cats, but it was always Yuan who used them for the most part. I put the first section up next to my desk in the living room, since he always wants to sit with me there, so that way there is a large one right next to the desk where he can snoopurrvise even if I have taken up all the desk space, and a high up large one where he can take a nap and survey his kingdom, as he likes to do. :)
Next, I put up the shelf that serves as my mantelpiece above the fireplace:
And I knew to put it high enough over the top of the fireplace so that I could properly screw the screws into the wall, lol - there's metal flashing for a bit above the top of the fireplace, which extends further than I had thought it would as I discovered in Old Apartment.
Then came time to figure out how to make a permanent spot for my clip light in the living room. In Old Apartment, it was clipped to a shelf, but in New Apartment, I wanted it more on that corner next to the fireplace, which will be open space once I get the last of everything put away. I tossed around ideas in my head for a bit, and finally came up with this solution:
Screw a wooden ruler to the wall, and clip it to that! I had been thinking I would clip it to the mantel shelf, but alas, it doesn't turn 90 degrees (I thought it did and only realized it yesterday that it did not). So then I wondered what to do. I have some small L-brackets I was thinking about using, but they're bumpy in the middle so it might not have been very stable; then I spotted the ruler in my pencil cup and thought, AHA! I'm a little proud of my unusual solution there. :)
So now my living room is looking a lot more put together, and I really like the space. Plus I like having the salt lamp on the mantelpiece as a night light!
Thanks for reading and have a great day! :)
